1993:
CARE Cambodia achieved funding from the Australian Governance to pilot a unique and innovative urban poverty alleviation program in Phnom Penh, called “SEILA Project” (Social Economic Improvement for Local Agency). The project was
intended to support one of the poorest peri-urban areas for income generation and job creation service known as “Credit Extension to Vulnerable groups in Phnom Penh Project”. At the same, CARE Cambodia has received an initial infusion fund from UNDP/CARERE, to set up for two Village Banks project: - CARE Village Bank in Pursat Province. - CARE Village Bank in BANTEAY MEANCHEY Province.
1995 :
CARE Cambodia plans to transform the three projects into a Cambodian localization for microfinance development organization.
1996 :
SEILANITHIH was established from the merging of the three CARE Cambodia Project became three branches of SEILANITHIH that will continue the operation after the SEILA Project and that led to the new birth of SEILANITHIH NGO. There was gradual hand over of responsibility and accountability from CARE Cambodia to SEILANITHIH, with CARE acting as an advisor.
1997 :
AFD became the main donor of SEILANITHIH NGO.
1998 :
SEILANITHIH start to piloting a new Individual loan product with loan size up to US$ 500 to 100 clients in Phnom Penh branch.
2000 :
SEILANITHIH NGO borrows loan fund from Rural Development Bank.
2001 :
Register with NBC as a RURAL CREDIT OPERATOR. RDB was selected Seilanithih NGO to provide International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) funding to the target clients of AIP in Banteay Meanchy Province. Loan fund borrows from RBD to set-up a new branch in Malay District of Banteay Meanchey province, so Branch 4 was founded.
2002 :
The youngest branch was born in Battambang province, as Branch 5. RDB was selected Seilanithih NGO to provide IFAD funding to the target clients of AIP in Pursat Province.
2003 :
SEILANITHIH becomes Private Limited Company with 2 shareholders of registered capital of 925 million KHM from Seilanithih NGO and Staff Association, and received a licensed Micro Finance Institution from the National Bank of Cambodia to provide financial service in Cambodia.
2006 :
New organizational chart is designed in order to re-enforce and accelerate operations of Seilanithih.
2007:
Awarded with permanent license by the National Bank of Cambodia. A new branch is established in Siem Reap province.
2008 :
Branch opening in Kampong Cham province.
2009:
Catalyst Microfinance Investors (CMI) International Holding becomes a shareholder.
