Building bridges across borders around the world, and exchanging appreciation and compassion between cultures is the core of our mission. We are grateful for the children from Socrates Preparatory School for sending over special gifts to our children in the center all the way from Orlando, Florida 🤗 To show love, our children have knitted greeting cards with a written message inside. Each Card was accompanied by a painted canvas by the children themselves and were sealed together with love from every child. The PsychoSocial Support Session came with a different Twist this time where a film featuring different conflicts and struggles of disadvantaged people, particularly children and Refugees, in Lebanon was projected. During showtime, caregivers were amazed by the hardships faced by the people, and were able to relate to all incidents from the Film. Migration, Poverty, Child Labor, Early Child Marriage, Lack of Education, Limited access to Sanitary/Medical services, and Bullying, are all real-time Life challenges faced by disadvantaged individuals in Lebanon. Our Caregivers spoke out loud with the Social-Worker about their concerns and have discussed the steps needed to help solve this problem. To meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable children, over 600 winterization kits were provided with the support of the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund United Nations OCHA Lebanon. One month has passed for the women's graduation of cycle 2 in the 'Building My Independence' Project. 40+ Women have participated in Macrame, Nails, and Makeup Workshops, where they have learned the fundamental of each skill, and the best way to apply it while meeting all preferences. Some of them are working from Home and in Salons. Meet M.S, a 29 year old Syrian Mom who joined Macrame Vocational Training under ‘Building My Independence’ Program 2 months ago, and has managed to excel in both subjects, English and Digital Literacy, with a distinctive effort, all through her hard-work, commitment, and perseverance. During her Teenage years, M.S already struggled enough from her parents’ separation which affected her living and peace of mind. She was forced to marry at an early age (18) to seek a better life, but her marriage only lasted for 5 years. M.S was deprived of all sources of income, and was not able to make a living whatsoever. She never had a job to help with her expenditures, and had to live through misery for a long time. Despite not finishing her education, and in order to save her daughter from living the same situation as she did in the past, M.S decided to pursue her dream and enroll in Macrame vocational program to launch her own career and make a decent living out of her independent job. It is the duty of every single Human to work for the safe living of this planet. Every year our planet undergoes drastic changes due to human activities. From cutting down trees, to burning fuel, to over fishing, to waste, to pollution and machinery movement. All these actions contribute to global warming, the damage of the earth’s crust, and ozone layer. During the pandemic, the ozone layer has recovered by a great percentage due to the decrease of machinery movement and industrial factories. There were significant changes of the earth’s crust vibrations, and the skies were clear. As an outdoor activity, the children were introduced to the ways of improving the environment through different colors and drawings on the wall, where every color represented the environmental change taking place. The colors changed from variants of red, being hot temperatures, to variants of blue, being cold temperatures. It is through the collective work of Humans that we will have a healthier planet. Building my Independence
The Building My Independence project's first cycle is coming to an end. Three groups of 15 women each underwent a particular vocational training in Nails, Makeup, and Makrame. Along with the employment training, the ladies attended soft skills courses, as well as English and Digital Literacy classes. Building My Independence - Macrame
Marwa is a 27 years Lebanese woman and a mom of 2 children. She joined Borderless 2 months ago through the “Building my independence” project, where she’s learning the Macrame vocation. She stopped her education in grade 7 because her parents weren’t financially able to provide her with her education and then got married at 20 years old. “I joined this program because I want to learn and gain practical skills that help me to work and make my own money. At the beginning of this program, I was afraid a bit to learn, I thought Macrame is complicated but the trainer made it so easy and I discovered that I love what I am learning”, she added. Marwa started making and selling bracelets directly after she started learning with our trainers, she wants to work on herself and be a role model for her children in addition to recovering from the gap years when she wasn’t attending school or learning any practical skills. Throughout our program, we focus on empowering vulnerable women and upskilling them by giving them the opportunity to learn hard and soft skills so they can discover how much they have power inside each one of them. Today Marwa is working on her new bracelets collection for the world cup season and she is selling them for 50.000 LBP. Marwa is very proud that she was able to make her first profit ever. She is planning to save all the money she is gaining and invest them in getting more material to maximize her production.
