🔍 Feb Market Review 🔍

Overall performance 📶: Sales worsen for Feb and are 53% ⏬ than Feb-19. Compared to the previous 3 years, this one is the worse by far, and it continues to be that way. Only one question comes to mind, which companies can last and for how long? How is it going to look for March now that Coronavirus also enters the equation on top of the crisis?

Mass Cars 🚗: This is where companies are hurting the most. It's the average middle-lower class consumer that is most affected 💸. Chevrolet climbs to the 2️⃣ spot probably because they were offering their cars at an unchanged rate of 1,500 LBP to the USD, but we heard that these offers are no longer available. As for Mitsubishi, the cause of the surge in sales is still unclear.

Luxury Sales 🚘💎: The luxury market starts taking a hit as the stocks are running out with many people buying these cars to keep them or sell them abroad. It's ⏬ 41% this month compared to Jan where it was ⏬ 15%. Some brands that used to have a permanent spot in the Top 5 such as Land Rover are out (⏬ 88%). Audi gains a good position thanks in part to more sales of hybrids.

Sales by Origin: You can see how 🇪🇺 are selling almost as much as 🇯🇵 although the gap would almost be double in the past. This is because there is some concentration of luxury cars among 🇪🇺 brands, and because the european-registered MG brand sold as much as 51 vehicles in the previous month. The cause of MG sales is also unknown, but sources say that Rasamny Group (Hyundai, Changan, MG, Geely, etc...) might be the only companies offering financial support on their cars while others are charging as high as the daily market rate on the dollar. The 🇰🇷 are down to 3rd position after they used to dominate the top sellers list.

HEV/PHEV sellers ⚡: BMW leads the way after coming second last month. The landscape in HEVs/PHEVs changed after the crisis. You can see brands like Mercedes, Audi, BMW selling hybrids whereas brands like Toyota used to deliver more consistent results. This tells us that hybrids are also being bought by people getting their money out of the bank.

In yellow you can see how the year is starting compared to 2017/18/19. What's notable is that this month is ↘️ -47% lower than last year despite the fact that previous months were ↘️ -65% lower at least when compared to 2019.

Feedback from local dealers indicates that everyone is using banker cheques 🏦 to buy their cars, and that those people are usually affluent and are buying luxury cars 💵 💵

In the posts, you will see how the luxury market is down by only ↘️ -15% compared to the total drop of ↘️ -47%. That makes us wonder why those people are buying depreciating assets 🚙 instead of real estate 🏢 for example?
