Care for the helpless animals in our community

05/05/2024

This doggie has been on Mission Road, Pitakotte from a few days ago. A kind lady from the area reached out to us seeking help. She and another resident gives him food and water but is unable to keep him as she has four more rescued animals at home. This doggie is either lost or abandoned. He is very tame and looks like he has been a house pet.

This innocent doggie is so scared and he tries to go into the houses in the lane and hides inside the yards. But some people don't like him coming into their property and they beat him up with rocks. Even yesterday, a man was beating him with rocks and he was running away. We pleaded with the man and told him not to beat him till we find a home for him.

This doggie looks so tired and scared. He has a fresh wound on the back of his neck, most probably from a dog bite. His face is stained with tears, he must be crying in fear and loneliness. He has no place to go. People beat him and chase him. Imagine the pain he must be going through.

We humbly ask if anyone would like to foster or adopt him. KAWSL will be taking him to the vet. We will fully vaccinate him and treat him if he has any sicknesses.

To all the kind hearted animal lovers, we humbly request from you to open up your home for this helpless doggie if possible. Please help relieve him of his pain and suffering. 🙏🏻

Update on Chooty; the doggie with the Perineal Hernia, from Lakshapathiya, Moratuwa.

Chooty was admitted to the Colombo South Veterinary Hospital on Thursday (25th April). An initial blood test was done on Chooty, he has been tested positive with Filaria.

The doctor said that the surgery cannot be performed right away as the Filaria count is too high and there is a risk of putting him under anaesthesia, as it can cause a block in his heart. He further said that this is a very serious surgery. Therefore, the surgery will have to be performed in two stages. Firstly, one part of the hernia will be operated, thereafter in three weeks the second surgery will be performed.

The doctor's recommendation was, for Chooty to be given an injection for Filaria, get Chooty discharged on Sunday (28th April), come back in seven days, test for Filaria and thereafter proceed with the Surgery, depending on the blood report.

Chooty was given the injection for Filaria today (27th April) and he will be discharged tomorrow. Chooty will be brought back to the hospital in a week to be tested again and thereafter proceed with the surgery.

According to the current situation, we are in need of more funds than we initially expected. As of now, two surgeries need to be performed and Chooty will have to be boarded for ten days after each surgery for post-operative care. We humbly request that you would be kind enough to make even a small contribution towards Chooty's surgery and treatments.

Meet Chooty a doggie who lives on the streets of Lakshapathiya, Moratuwa.

A resident from Moratuwa reached out to us seeking help for him.

We consulted our vet and his diagnosis was that he is suffering from a Perineal Hernia. He needs to go through an advance surgery and will need post-operative care as well.

We are collecting funds for his surgery and after care. He is suffering a lot at the moment. He is not eating nor passing stools. We humbly request that if anyone would like to help this innocent animal who is suffering, please get in touch with us. Even the smallest contribution would help immensely in saving this doggie's life.

A resident of Athurugiriya informed us about this disabled doggie, living on the street at Bodhiraja Mawatha.

We spoke to Kim Cooling of Animal SOS Sri Lanka to see if they can take him in. Even though they had their hands full, Kim and her team were so kind enough to take him in.

We also thank all the members of Kotte Animal Welfare Sri Lanka who donated funds to cover the transportation cost from Athurugiriya to Ahangama. Thank you for your generosity and kindness. 🙏🏻

We are so happy that this doggie finally got a peaceful place to rest, after years of suffering and having to drag himself on the streets, he will be able to spend the rest of his days with people who will love and care for him.❤️

Thank you once again Kim Cooling and Animal SOS Sri Lanka for the great service you do for these helpless animals. 🙏🏻

Meet Indi, from Independence Square.

One of our KAWSL members saw him at Independence Square a couple of days ago. He had been limping and seemed to be walking in pain. It also looked like he had an ear infection and he looked very weak.

Today, we brought Indi to the vet and got him examined.

According to the Doctor, he is a very old dog, around 10 to 12 years. He had an ear infection and arthritis. Most of his ailments were due to old age. Both conditions were treated. He also has cataract on both eyes.

Indi will be kept for observation for two days at the clinic and will be dropped back at Independence Square on Sunday, after administering the anti-rabies vaccination.

Indi usually can be seen relaxing with his girlfriend at the Torrington Park in front of the flag pole. If you do go by, please visit them and give them some treats.

There are three more female puppies looking for their forever homes. If you could open up your home for them, please do so. It would be a great blessing.

Update on Kiki

Kiki, the female dog from Pitakotte, was diagnosed with kidney failure and anaemia. Her blood reports were not very positive.

The doctor prescribed an Erythropoietin injection along with fluid treatment and oral medicine. Kiki has to be given oral medicine for 5 days, after which another blood test will be done to see if there is an improvement and take it from there.

Kiki is a very old dog. We are doing the best we can for her to be comfortable and ease her pain.

We are hoping for a positive result 🙏🏻

Hello Friends,

Kotte Animal Welfare Sri Lanka (KAWSL) is a recently formed animal welfare organisation (in the process of registering), where we rescue, help, care for and find homes for abandoned street animals.

Within the past month, we have done a lot of work for these helpless souls on the streets. We have rescued pups, given vaccinations, found homes for them and treated sick and injured animals. You can visit our page and see for yourself all that we have accomplished within the last month.

We would also like to request you to follow and share our page with your friends and family.

KAWSL still has a long way to go. We have to complete vaccinations and sterilization on the pups and adult dogs that we rescued, continue treatments on the sick animals and takeover new cases.

We are a very small organisation and we function on the donations we receive; at this moment we are short of funds. We require funds to continue with the cases we already have as well as takeover new cases.

We reach out to you asking to lend a helping hand to save these helpless souls on the streets. Your donation will go a long way. Please help us make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals. Even a small donation is welcomed.

If you would wish to help us in saving these helpless street animals please get in touch with us.

Thank you for your kindness ❤️🙏🏻

Kiki, a female dog from Pitakotte, was sick, and one of our KAWSL members informed us about her. She was very weak, had a loss of appetite and was collapsing while trying to walk.

She was taken to the vet on Sunday and was diagnosed with Filaria. The doctor started on medications immediately through injections, and she was given an IV along with oral medicine.

We wish Kiki a speedy recovery.

❤️ The joy of adopting ❤️

A resident of Hokandara reached out to KAWSL asking for us to help this poor cat.

He has a big wound on his back, the skin has come off, and he is in a lot of pain. We suspect the wound is caused by someone pouring hot water on its back. It is heartbreaking to see such things. How could someone be so cruel. It is unimaginable how people can inflict such pain on an innocent animal. But the sad truth is there are many animals who suffer this way.

Deshan, one of the committed members of KAWSL, came to the rescue of this poor cat. KAWSL is sponsoring all the medicines needed to treat the wound. Deshan goes regularly and treats the cat’s wound. The cat is on the way to recovery. Thank you Deshan, for your dedication, love, and commitment to all these animals. KAWSL truly appreciates all your hard work.

In a world where some treat animals with cruelty, we also find people who care for animals with love and kindness. We hope to continue the work we are doing with the support of everyone, to rescue, support, care, and be a voice for the voiceless ❤️

Our Kelly girl got the rest of her vaccinations today. She is such a sweet puppy with a loving and gentle personality.

KAWSL is still looking for a loving home for her. We really hope Kelly would find a home soon as she is not in a safe environment. We don't want anything bad happening to her.

It is so sad that there are so many pups like Kelly in unsafe environments, just dumped by people 😢. We hope that we can find homes for them before it's too late.
