As we walk along the Pekoe Trail, the beauty of nature is abundant. While we love the amazing views that expand before our eyes while never failing to stop us in our tracks, we also love the smaller surprises. The flashes of coulour that flutter by us. Like this beautiful Idian Fritillary.

Congratulations to Miguel Cunat and The Pekoe Trail team for conceiving and developing a national trail that has garnered much needed positive attention to Sri Lanka during a challenging period and for instilling a renewed sense of excitement in the hearts of local and foreign travellers. It has not only proved to be a fantastic walking experience but has done so much for the communities it passes through. This award is a well deserved accolade that is celebrated by all!

We have enjoyed the beauty, adventure, joy and magic of the trail for well over a year and are thrilled to see the world recognize the same and we are excited to share that joy with discerning travellers.

The weather changes so rapidly in the hills, some treks feel like a couple of them rolled together as one. While we started the trail with an amazing cool breeze, that soon changed to blazing heat and ended with pouring rain. This was when the sun had simmered down, just before a drizzle broke out. Gotta love it!!

The Pekoe Trail takes you through varied terrain and the weather in the hills changes so rapidly, you can enjoy cool breezes, scorching heat, little bit of rain or a walk through the clouds, all during the same trail.

Views and brews: what it’s like to hike the hills of Sri Lanka’s tea country 13/01/2023

The Pekoe Trail offers us a great opportunity to understand the tea industry in Sri Lanka in a deeper way than ever before. Each of the 22 trails go through tea plantations and communities that are built around them but also through forests, along railway tracks, past waterfalls and so much more!

Sometimes simpler it is, the tastier it is. Some mouth watering home made food we enjoy while exploring the villages just shy of the tourist trail.

Human encounters are one of the most magical parts about traveling. We thoroughly enjoy working with this lovely, hard working young couple who operate small scale bakery with a wood fire oven. Watching the process has given us new appreciation for the bread we eat!

Exploring the scenic tea country is made all the more exciting by the railway track that weves seamlessly through the hills.
