Islamic update:

As Muslims across the globe begains the observance of the last 10 nights of the Holy Month of Ramadan today, Liberian Muslims to perform taraweeh (night prayer) at the Mosques irrespective of the stay home mandate by President Weah which starts at 3pm daily.

Officials of the Islamic Community of Liberia represented by the National Muslim Council of Liberia, the National Imam Council of Liberia and senior Muslim officials in government, including the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Varney Sirleaf and the Islamic Affairs Advisor to the President, Alhaji Usmane T. Jalloh met on Tuesday May 12, 2020, and concluded on the following:

1. There will be taraweeh and late night prayers at mosques during the last ten nights of Ramadan.

2. Mosque authorities should ensure that all those going for prayers wear face masks.

3. Everyone should carry his/her own prayer mat, as no two persons will be allowed to use one mat.

4. No more than 25% of regular worshippers will be allowed in the mosque at a time.

5. Mosque authorities will print tickets to be given to those entering the mosque in keeping with the 25% policy.

6. Handwashing buckets with soap should be available where people will be made to wash their hands before they are given kettles for ablution.

7. Temperature of people should be checked where possible before they are allowed to enter the mosque.

As a Senior Executive Member ( SEM) of the "No Position" Council of Liberia, I too will give my official position on the most talked about "Weah Step Down Campaign" few days from now.

Until then, I have just 1 dozen questions on mind.

1. Is there any African country where a democratilly elected president has stepped down as the result of a 'peaceful protest' without a single bloodshed?

2. If Mr. Weah steps down, will the Vice President, or speaker, or ... govern this country in peace?

3. If there should be an interim arrangement after Mr. Weah steps down, will it help minimize the poverty or hardship in our country?

4. Are the lead organizers of the protest trustworthy, can they be trusted to provide good governance for the state?

5. If Mr . Weah should step down at the result of a protest action outside of the ballot, don't your think CDCians or supporters of Mr. Weah's leadership will also organize " Step Down Protests" against anyone coming in as president of Liberia?

6. If Mr. Weah should stay in power until 2023, are things ever going to improve under his supervision?

7. If Mr. Weah should stay in power until 2023, how many ordinary Liberians are expected to die from hardship or poverty, how many kids are expected to drop from school, how many parents are expected to run out of business, and how many young persons will sell themselves just for survival?

8. Is Liberia's economy going to totally collapse if Mr. Weah should stay in power until 2023?

9. Is the "Weah Step Down Protest" in the interest of "the ordinary masses", or a "selected group of few hustlers and self-seeking individuals", or the comon good of all?

10. Don't you think that if Mr. Weah should be forced out of office through protest, he could use that as a means of shifting blames for his under-performence?

11. Don't you think Mr. Weah should be allowed to constitutionally end his presidential tenure, so Liberians can really understand the effects of bad decision-making during times of election (s)?

12. Should some of those wanting to protest be the ones to protest against bad governance?
