Don't miss the unique Hopping Procession! ✨
Since 2010, the Hopping Procession of Echternach has been listed as Intangible Heritage by the UNESCO. 🌍
Every year on Whit Tuesday, thousands of pilgrims gather to take part in this exceptional procession in honour of the founder of the abbey, Saint Willibrord. At the end, the procession leads to the tomb of the patron saint, which is located in the crypt of the Basilica.💒
Prayers, pilgrims and high dignitaries of the Catholic Church from all over Europe hop to the rhythm of a polka melody, played by music groups. 🎺🥁
The procession leads through the medieval streets of Echternach until the crypt, past the tomb of St. Willibrord. The Hopping Procession serves as an expression of gratitude, joy and faith.🙏
To really understand its significance, why not come to visit it on the 21.May?🗓
If you would like to participate, you can do so as “Einzelpilger” (single pilgrim) but don’t forget your white napkin.
You can reach the Mullerthal Region from Luxembourg City by free public transport. 🚍
And remember to wear a white shirt and dark trousers to blend in with the crowd.👖👕
