The Challenging “M-Shaped” Lips

This is a notoriously tricky lip shape to treat. Why? M-shaped lips have a thicker middle part which thins out very rapidly towards the corners giving them the shape of the letter M. Notice that the top lip tissue also curves inwards which can be relatively unforgiving to treat.

The key is to build them up gradually and picking the right type of dermal filler that will integrate well with the lip tissue.

To enhance this patient’s lips we added height and volume to the top lip to achieve a more balanced upper to lower lip ratio.

Does your side profile bother you?

Our patient came to us feeling that her side profile was off balance. After assessing her face, we found that the most forward point of her chin was sitting behind the most forward point of her lower bottom lip - this is actually considered a recessed or a weak chin! Having a weak/short chin can draw focus onto the nose and lips, making these features look disproportionately bigger!

What did we treat?
We carefully placed a small amount of dermal filer to her elongate and project her chin.

The results … a more harmonised and balanced side profile. And a more defined jawline!

The longevity of anti-wrinkle treatment is something that is commonly misunderstood.

On average, the aesthetic result of anti-wrinkle injections last 3-4 months. However, it doesn’t suddenly wear off at 12 weeks!

Anti-wrinkle treatment peaks at 2 weeks and can persist for up to 6-8 weeks. This varies from person to person.

At 8-12 weeks muscle movement and strength will gradually return. This will slowly bring back wrinkles and fine lines. It is very rare to achieve a completely ‘frozen’ look for 12 weeks!

Lip Filler Healing Timeline

Having lip filler treatment is a journey that is unique to every individual! It is so important to understand what to expect as part of the healing process..

Day 0 : On the day of your treatment you may experience bruising and/or swelling. This is a normal response to soft tissue injury during lip filler treatment.

Day 1-2 after treatment : At this point you can expect the swelling to be at it’s worse and bruising will still be evident.

Day 4 after treatment : You will start to see improvement in swelling and bruising.

Day 14-28 after treatment : Healed and settled results!

Having perfected his skills in needle-based procedures whilst working for the NHS over the last 5 years, it seemed only natural for Dr Ciaran to progress into medical aesthetics.
