What is the ideal weight for a growing baby in relation to age?

This is one of the most common questions that parents ask and worry about. Baby weight being one of the determinants of a baby's growth and development rates makes this question a lot more peculiar.

Let's do some simple calculations to help you determine the ideal weight for your baby in relation to age using the Weech Formula

The only information you will need using this formula to calculate the ideal weight in kilograms (kg) or Pounds (lbs) is your baby's age.

To calculate your baby's weight in Kg using the Weech Formula for the age range 3 Months - 12 Months

Weight (kg) = (A + 9) /2

Where A is Age in months

Let's say baby is 5 months old

Weight (kg) = (5 + 9) /2 = 14/2 = 7kg

Therefore, the estimated weight for a 5-month-old is 7kg.

For baby weight in pounds (lbs) using Weech Formula

Weight (lbs) = Age (months) + 11

Let's say baby is 5 months old

Weight (lb) = 5 + 11 = 16lbs

This formula is more accurate if the constant (11) in the equation is changed to 10.7 but for ease of calculation the number 11 is used.

If you choose to use the calculation in pounds, you can convert to kg by multiplying the weight in pounds by 0.454

After you have calculated the estimated weight, weigh your baby and compare weights. A difference of 0.1 to 0.9kg between your baby's weight and the calculated weight is normal.

Next is for older children aged 1 Year To 12 Years

Let's do this in Pounds (lbs)

Estimated weights for 1 Year to 3.5 Years

1 Year -------------- 22.4lbs
1 years 6 months -------------- 25.4lbs
2 Years -------------- 27.0lbs
2 Years 6 months -------------- 30.3lbs
3 Years 6 months --------------- 35lbs

Estimated weights for babies aged 4 Years to 12 Years

4 - 8 years - Weight (pounds) = 6 * A(years) + 12

8 - 12 years - Weight (pounds) = 7 * A(years) + 5

Remember to convert pounds to Kg by multiplying by 0.454

Slight differences in real and estimated age is normal and should not cause any worry.

Children have food preferences and it's perfectly normal if their favourite meals change from time to time. They are growing ❤️

I just got this feedback from a long time customer whos baby just stopped 'liking' the Quads pudding after he had been eating it well for about 6 months.

There is this fruit-seller in my area. When he first set up store, it was a ramshackle kind of arrangement... In a big man's GRA! Most people just pass him by.

I had an encounter with him once. I can't remember clearly what happened but it was with one of my sons and we left there happy and my son holding banana. My son nicknamed him banana man.

No day passed after then but my son must cry for banana which I must buy. The young man even deviced a formula for selling 50naira 100 naira banana and I noticed I wasn't the only who's children cry for his fruits. The way he'll be hyping them ehn! Alhaji! ...I am mummy alhaji 😂

Now, see cars parking and people buying fruits worth thousands of naira always with smiles and laughter while buying from him.

You see that ramshackle? It's now a better structure with racks and show glass. He even has up to 3 boys working for him. Within the space of a year or two.

What is the take away from this story? While we are strategizing on our content and marketing, we should not forget the power of just being nice.

No matter if you are an influencer or a vendor trying to raise up the followers count, be nice. Without your followers and customers nothing remains special.
