🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩 Ali Asgar Tara (she/her, ) is a transgender artist and activist from the Bengal Delta. She is an Assistant Professor of Art & Critical Race Theory at Pace University, and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

She believes the survey is important and very timely because it has formed a new understanding of coming out, visibility, & gender identity from the non-white, South Asian perspective. Sexual health is often a shameful and taboo topic for our communities & especially q***r folks who have intersecting identities.

Self_Saboteur (she/her) is an emerging illustrator, comic artist and zinester based in Canada. She is best known for her work exploring disability and trauma through expressive line work and bright contrasting colours.

writes, “I think studies like what SAIQSI is doing, is so essential to our community. Our communities practice a culture of silencing in regards social problems that we face. Often there is no accountability taken to achieve justice out of fear, intergenerational trauma and other factors. Without research being done, we can't have those uncomfortable conversations to rebuild trust and solidarity with our community members.”

modern-day pakistan possesses rich q***r histories, from punjabi sufi saints like madho lal hussain, whose tales of q***r love are well known and whose shrine is visited by thousands, to contemporary artists and celebrities like tan france. the khwaja sira/transgender communities in pakistan are also resilient and thriving despite repeated attempts of erasure and neglect. it’s important for the saiqsi survey to have these profound q***r/trans narratives reflected in our health survey.

therefore, we are calling all folx with pakistani backgrounds who are q***r and transgender to complete the saiqsi survey! currently only 11% of the 900+ participants of our study are of pakistani background, even though there is a large diaspora in the us and canada. If you are pakistani and q***r or transgender, please complete the saiqsi study today! link in bio and in the comments below.

Gabrielle Francis (.dyke, they/she) is a q***r Indo-Trinidadian interdisciplinary artist from Queens, New York. They deeply care about the role of collective memory because they recognize its importance in shaping not just the past but the future as well. Their performances often invite us in as active participants and asks us how do we want to be remembered? They are interested in experimenting with environmental elements that tell and create stories and realities where those of us at the margins are centered. Gabrielle also serves as a board member and co-chair of the survivor led gender justice organization based in NYC,

Q***r women and gender expansive people folks too often get left out of narratives and left out of the resources they need to live full and safe lives, especially sexually. There is so much freedom, truth, and pleasure in queeerness and being gender expansive. Yet we get diminished, erased and left underserved. Studies like this help make sure are communities are heard and accounted for so we can be served. Breaking the stigma and silence are pathways to our liberation.

(he/him/his) is a healthcare administrator who oversees the first Transgender Medical Program located in Long Island, New York. He believes this study is crucial as there aren’t many outlets designated for the Q***r South Asian community to tap into when accessing appropriate healthcare as well as providing health literacy to better protect themselves. Sundeep believes that access to HIV/STI testing within a safe space, non-judgmental is important for Q***r South Asians. Whether you are closed, discreet or living your authentic self, staying protected and getting tested is important and that begins with education and linkage to healthcare.

Sundeep says, “More surveys and studies like these need to come to fruition catered towards the Q***r South Asian community. For so long, our community has been isolated. It’s time we are seen and heard. Healthcare is a right!”

Take the saiqsi survey today and share it with your friends and contacts!

indo-caribbean narratives are often erased within larger south asian discourses, but the saiqsi survey hopes to battle that by committing to q***r and trans indo-caribbean representation in this health study.

less than 10% of responses of the survey are from indo-caribbean folx — that is, q***r and trans individuals who are guyanese, trinidadian, surinamese, jamaican, and more. if you are indo-caribbean and part or the lgbtqia+ community, please fill out this survey and share it! your physical, sexual, and mental health is important to learn about! link in bio and in the comments below!

Musaub (, he/they) is one of the co-founders of the SAIQSI study and is finishing his residency training in primary care / social internal medicine in New York. He’s an avowed socialist who believes medicine can be a tool for liberation.

SAIQSI isn’t just a health study for q***r and transgender south asians and indo-caribbeans. It’s designed to be a community experience for everyone involved in the study- participants, data analysts, and study designers alike. SAIQSI aims to reduce exploitative practices within medical research by sharing ownership of the study with community members of the lgbtqia+ south asian and indo-caribbean communities and organizations that work with them. We are already thinking about what this looks like in reality as the study progresses.

If you’re reading this and you’re interested in collaborating, let us know! Sharing in the abundance of this project is important to SAIQSI. And if you haven’t, take the survey today and share it!

we opened a page and we would like you to like and follow it! (Link in comment below). why is this important? because different social media platforms cater to different demographics and we need “The Algorithm” to take our page seriously!

Instagram mostly serves 18-34 year olds while Facebook still carries an older crowd. Capturing age diversity is important for saiqsi and so we would like to use our page to perform outreach to older and more diverse q***r and trans south asians and indo-caribbeans!

Nonie (, she/they), is a South Asian q***r womxn, originally from California but currently pursuing a Master’s in Miami. They are majoring in Prevention Science & Community Health, and are passionate about studying the intersectionality between cultural values and identities and sexual health, stigmas, power & gender-based violence, and health disparities.
They are excited that the SAIQSI study aims to address the major gaps of inclusive, qualitative data regarding q***r and LGBTQIA+ sexual health within the South Asian, Indo-Caribbean, or other South Asian descent diaspora populations, and are happy to be able to contribute.

Thank you for your participation, Nonie!
