With being last week I am pleased to introduce a new facet to our mobile health program. Project MAPS will provide mobile addiction & primary care services in collaboration with the DOC. We are excited to have Dr. Adams as our addiction medicine physician on the van & pioneer this innovative program.
Thankful for our partners, NC Harm Reduction & Durham County EMS Community Paramedics, who have been instrumental in our outreach efforts. We are humbled to be able to serve this population and our Durham community in this capacity.

Shout out to our thoughtful Duke General Internal Medicine resident we had on the mobile unit this week. It was the birthday of one of our patients & he brought flowers & a cupcake. She LOVED it!! When providers bring both clinical competence AND kindness to the job, it resonates with patients, building trust and rapport. Clearly evident today. It also left a footprint on our Durham Technical Community College students of how patients should be treated.
Such great work today with a great team! We could not accomplish this work without ALL of our team players - City of Medicine Volunteer Medical Corps In Her Vision Blue Cross NC Essilor Vision Foundation Durham Technical Community College Reaching All Minds Academy
Loved serving our LGBTQ community at the Durham Q***r Health Fair with In Her Vision. Thanks for having us LGBTQ Center of Durham!
What a great time we had at the Durham Center for Senior Life alongside the M-PACT scholars.
✔️ Educational bingo where participants learned about health topics of concern for their demographic AND won prizes while doing it.
✔️A1C Screening - 20% of the participants screened met criteria for pre-diabetes so our students were able to provide education and resources.
✔️ Blood Pressure checks paired with education.
✔️ Vision Screenings with recommendations for follow up.
The students also got to tour the Durham Adult Day Health at the DCSL, which was great exposure for our students.
So thankful for this partnership. Awesome job goes out to all that made today happen. From Holly and Kafi at the DPLC who helped get consents back and made our schedule run smoothly today, to City of Medicine Volunteer Medical Corps who went ahead of us to do the mass vision screenings, to Dr. B at In Her Vision who was able to speak in the native language of some of the Newcomer Academy students and provide nearly 30 comprehensive eye exams at no cost to the students today, and last but not least, the Durham Technical Community College Opticianry instructors and students who fitted and measured students for glasses. What a fantastic picture of what public health should look like!
We took care of our Durham Technical Community College students today, providing some much needed access to vision care. Thank you for your partnership as well as the time and care you had for our students today!
We’ve been able to visit our rural communities as of late and it’s been eye opening. It is an honor to be able to provide healthcare services to the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe in Halifax/Warren counties. There is rich history & culture here and it’s so important for our student learners to have interactions with ALL people. We need to build up empathetic practitioners who welcome diversity, equity, and inclusion. We ❤️ having a mobile clinic on wheels that allows us to visit all of these communities!

Public health at its finest! ❤️ Thank you World Relief Durham, City of Medicine Volunteer Medical Corps & In Her Vision for your collaboration!
We had such a rewarding day serving Families Moving Forward with In Her Vision. Bringing eye care to families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have access to care is what we love doing!
We went a little outside of our normal area to serve alongside some of our new rural friends, HeartWorks, a nonprofit addressing the underserved mental & physical health needs of youth and their families in Pamlico County, NC. Along with the M-PACT Clinic we provided vision screenings to children.
To give you an idea of what healthcare is like in Pamlico County, there are NO pediatricians in the entire county, only 1 optometrist, NO ophthalmologist, and only 2 adult primary care providers. The rural areas need our support!
Thank you Pamlico County Health Department for helping coordinate this event.

“I never knew something like this existed. This is amazing.” This was said by one of our patients today who went on to ask how this work was possible. We were able to share about our unique partnership with the Duke Outpatient Clinic and Durham Tech. He was beyond thrilled we provided this service to him at no extra charge. He received the clinical care he needed as well as referrals for social services. We love days out with Durham Technical Community College students, Duke General Internal Medicine residents, and UNC EM interns!

What a time we had partnering with Duke HomeCare & Hospice at their . A huge thank you to Durham Technical Community College Allied Health students along with Duke University School of Medicine students who volunteered their time to staff the Duke Wellness Clinic at the event. So many folks were helped and received resources they wouldn’t have otherwise gotten. Taking care of those who constantly sacrifice for others is so important.
Today the Project SIGHT Team went out to Forest View Elementary school and provided Comprehensive eye exams and eyeglasses to K-5 students.
Last week the team from screened over 250+ students and today we were able to go back and provide these services to the ones who failed. It truly takes a team to make this all happen.
Thank you to and for your ongoing partnerships and the staff and school nurse for the support and for helping us make this happen.
We even had a couple of guest appearances show up today for eye exams and glasses and we made sure to work them in. Can you spot them?
It’s such a privilege to serve alongside our partners from Duke Health checking in on their home bound patients. We also took along 2 students from our Phlebotomy and EKG programs at Durham Tech so that they could gain some valuable hands on/real world experience.
