Biko, go for fitting ooo if your designer asks you to or work something out with your designer. Whatever you do, be there for fitting when requested for because some things may not be properly achieved except in the body of the wearer of the garment.

Now, I don't even think twice about it. Any beading or project with stones goes to the appropriate professional.

I just get their costs for their services and include it in my costing. Shikena!

So, I had this massive cramp on my calf. Hubby was not around on this day. I could only plead the blood of Jesus and call on the Holy Ghost as I made an attempt to massage the muscle involved. It subsided shortly after and felt better 🙌🙌.

Thankfully, hubby was around the next time I had such and helped out.

He asked if I had been involved in a long distance race because people that do such are the ones prone to cramps 🤣🤣🤣. I was tempted to laugh if not for the pain. I knew it was work induced tho😰.

Garment making is no small feat!

From consultation, to analyzing the design, to sketching if necessary, to costing/pricing, to fabric sourcing, accessories purchase, pattern drafting and designing, cutting, stitching echeterem echeterem (etc. Can't remember where I heard or read that but i found it quite funny 🤣🤣).

Anyways, in case you are the type that thinks 'what is he/she buying? Is it not just needle, thread and lining?!' THINK AGAIN!

DEAR FASHION STUDENT,

Focus on what is most important and grounding than flamboyance.

It's okay to learn how to make complex designs but it's more important to learn the very basics.

Learn how to draft your BASIC BLOCKS properly first before delving into designing. It may look like you are wasting time at the beginning but no, you are not!

I remember when a student asked me if it's not better to go and learn from a 'roadside shop' than in a fashion school.

I asked her why and she said because you get to see different styles being made. I told her it's not just about making or seeing different styles being made but understanding the basics/concept behind what you are doing.

Take for example, this dress here has no princess style line. All I did was use my basic bodice pattern drafted with the underam dart. Both the underam and waist darts were held. I tightened the across chest a bit and transfered the excess removed to my waist dart.

See? Learning the basic is more important and will help you do much more in the long run.

So before you run off to the next available place of learning, ask to see what you'd be learning and ensure that the classes will lay a good foundation for you.
