Meet Maggie and Molly, my two redheaded rescue dachshunds. We adopted them from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in 2013 and they have been part of our family ever since.

Two fun facts..

1. I completely manifested them. I wanted two red headed girl dachshunds and was stalking the ARL web page for months. My partner, John, told me to give up and just go to a breeder. Ha! One night, there they were. I hopped in the car and grabbed them immediately!

2. I'm a momager ! Well, not really. But one time they modeled for an ARL fundraising poster with the Des Moines Buccaneers . We're still waiting on the next gig....Kris Jenner, any tips?

In a World of Chameleons, Be the Velociraptor

When I worked in politics, I dressed like every other staffer in D.C. - black Ann Taylor sheath dress, pearl stud earrings, pearl necklace, and sensible black pumps.

Dressing like everyone else lulled me into a zone so comfortable that I started acting like other people, too.

I see the same phenomenon on my Instagram feed. Influencers blend together in a tangle of beachy waves, ripped jeans, and the LIKEtoKNOWit app. The aesthetic is neutral but aspirational. Glimmer, not glitter.

And you know what? That sameness is boring!

Influencer culture on Instagram is the new magazine rack in a checkout aisle: airbrushed, expensive, and designed to make you feel bad.

Here’s what I wish I’d known back then: There is nothing lacking within you that means you have to go be somebody else.

And in fact, standing out is a good thing.

It interrupts the status quo. It makes you memorable. And it draws attention to your message.

If you want fame, be visible.
If money is what you're after, get noticed.
If you are chasing happiness, ground yourself in authenticity.
And if you want to impact change, standing out brings focus to your message.

Fame, money, and happiness are all well within reach, but sustained, deep contentment — and impact — comes from being who you are, not by chasing the temporary high of being other people.

So if you find yourself limiting what you add to your digital shopping cart because you’re worried about standing out, remember this:

The world has enough chameleons. Be a velociraptor.

Hey 👋🏽 I'm Grace, a personal stylist and advocate for womens rights and equality. I have a degree in Political Science from Kenyon College, and I studied art history, music, and theater with Hollins University Abroad in London.
5 Interesting facts you might not know about me...
1. My first job out of college was working as an opposition researcher at the DNC.

2. I grew up on a Mountain. A literal mountain, Lookout Mountain, to be exact. (Have you Seen Rock City?)

3. I have been on network reality television.

4. I used to get made fun for being different, wearing Gap blazers and bucket hats to school....now people pay me to stand out!

5. I ran for the Iowa Senate this year. If you're thinking about running for office, DO IT!
