Anthony Lockhart known by his stage name Kyd Sway is a musician from Sacramento, California that is signed to Black Market Records. The name Kyd Sway stands for Kill Your Demons and Save What Alters You. This is an acronym that he created that reflects his life and music. When he was young he was always around music and that sparked his interest to become a musician. A chance opportunity to create a song at a friend's studio helped birth his career. “One day I happened to go to a homies house and I just hopped on, I was like Yea, I really like this and had like a calling, it was just something that came naturally,” states Kyd Sway. He worked on his craft for years to create an authentic style that fits his originality. He combines a fusion of indie rock and rap that has its own unique musical experience. "When I first started I was really hard on myself, I was like maybe this sucks because I can’t find another artist to compare it to, but then I had to get over that, I was like when you're creating something that's new, you can't be comparing it because no one else is gonna have that type stuff, once I got over that obstacle, I was like it doesn’t matter if I'm different, I have lots of people telling me my music is fire.” In 2019 he released his first E.P. “Live Fast Die Young” which has received thousands of streams. He also performed his first show that year at the Complex in Oakland. His music eventually caught the ears of Bay Area artist Don P who became his manager. In 2019 Don P connected Kyd Sway to Black Market Records and he signed his first record deal.
Growing up, Kid Sway moved around a lot. He attended many different schools and was in and out of foster homes. From these experiences Kyd Sway learned to take things that were negative and flip them into something positive. “I just try to take away all the good stuff and forget the bad stuff,” states Kyd Sway. Music is his greatest gift and he has used his pain and passion to push a positive message to his fans. The content of his music revolves around heartbreak, dealing with death, and overcoming depression. He wants to spread a message of perseverance and overcoming obstacles. “ All I'm trying to do is help people that were in my position,” states Kyd Sway, I want them to know that your not alone, you can overcome this.” The impact of his music has already helped his fans to cope with the struggles of life. “I get a lot of random messages online now with people asking me how to start doing music or people hit me up and be like, I'm going through so much but I’m listening to your music and it's helping me, I just wanted to let you know that even if you don't respond I’m thankful for you.”
Kid Sway's positive energy and work ethic are a driving force to his path to success. “It’s all on me, if I really want this I have to do the work, states Kyd Sway, its people that want to help me, but at the end of the day no one can make you be a star, you have to do it yourself if you really want it.” He uses his message, music, and image to set him apart from the crowd. He is taking every step needed to be successful and doesn't want to take any shortcuts. “I don’t want to take baby steps for granted, states Kyd Sway, everything, every process, every stone, that I'm laying right here is all beneficial to the overall success that I'm trying to achieve." In January of 2020 his single "Love Hurts was released by Black Market Records. He is currently working on a two part project titled "Dead Roses."
