I was just texting with Robert Jones about CINEMA LOVE this week, so let me tell you about ’s debut here. Forthcoming from in May 2024. Totally available for pre-order. Goodreads giveaway happening now. The back cover of the galley includes a fun Chan-Chan collab with Vanessa. I love this book so much and can’t wait for the world to discover this story and these characters and most wonderful Andy, for whom I have the fun of serving as book auntie. Ahyi is so proud!

Here’s my full blurb:

“Lush, romantic, daring, and filled with indelible characters, Cinema Love is not just an extraordinary debut, but a future classic. In this story of forbidden q***r love and the cost of secrets, Jiaming Tang gives voice, humanity, and dignity to people so often rendered invisible by society. Here, Chinese laborers, factory workers, seamstresses, nail technicians, and cooks take glorious center stage, their lives and deepest yearnings made epic. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t stop reading.”

In late September, I had the huge honor of returning to Philly to share the stage with for Art As Advocacy: Family Policing & The Dystopia of Today, a panel organized over many months by . Thank you, Dr. Roberts, for all that you do. I continue to learn so much from your work. Being able to talk about the intersections between our books, and to be able to support the work of The Juvenile Law Center, is well beyond what I hoped for my novel and I feel very lucky to be able to participate in the conversation.

**TORN APART by just came out in paperback. Here is my latest reminder to read it!**

Thank you Riya .kleinman and your colleagues for all your hard work, and thanks to everyone who attended, including my friend Ellen, who trekked from DC. ❤️

Book baby has reached The Motherland! The China Times edition of TSFGM went on sale in Taiwan a month ago and I just received my copies and we’ve now reached peak Chan parent pride.

Endless thanks to my publisher, my translator Lyu Yi Xin, and to Xu Jinfan for writing the preface. (I really hope I have the pinyin for your names correct here.)

Every edition has been so special, but seeing my work translated into my parents’ native tongue is especially meaningful. It is SO COOL to see my Chinese name on the cover. It is so wild to know that my mom’s high school and college pals are reading my book. If I’m counting correctly, there are over 20 translations published/forthcoming, and I am so grateful.

and re-reading these books by in preparation for our panel event in Philly on Sept. 27, with .

For any TSFGM readers who want to learn more about the family policing system in America, the first book to read is TORN APART: How the Child Welfare System Destroys Black Families — And How Abolition Can Build A Safer World. This is the book I mentioned in all my recent events. Truly so nervous to share the stage with Dr. Roberts, the leading scholar in the field, but also so excited.
