Over the weekend some of our doctors spent Saturday gathering and packing supplies for relief efforts for people impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western NC. Our group's donations focused on supplies and food for family farms impacted by Helene.

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.

This past Saturday, Dr. Anna Fakadej participated in a panel discussion regarding Global Ophthalmology at the North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. She is picture below (left) with Dr. Lloyd Williams, the Director of Global Ophthalmology at Duke University, and Dr. Tina Singh, also from Duke University.

Topics included statistics on global blindness, preparation for a successful humanitarian trip, and reasons for going to a foreign country to perform eye surgery.

Dr. Fakadej has traveled to South America, Africa, and India to perform charity cataract surgery to areas in need. She serves on the Medical Board of Southern Eye Institute in Sierra Leone, West Africa. https://southerneyeinstitute.net/

On Wednesday, Glaucoma Specialist Dr. Tarra Millender became just the second surgeon in North Carolina to implant the iDose® TR, a revolutionary medication device for Open-Angle Glaucoma and High Eye Pressure. This device is implanted in the eye and continuously dispenses medication over the course of months.

Eye drop medication adherence can be difficult to follow. Many patients struggle sticking with a consistent schedule and ensuring they get the right amount of medication in their eye. iDose® TR removes eye drops from the equation and ensures Glaucoma patients receive consistent medication to help prevent further damage to their optic nerve and preserve their eyesight.
