Your personal photo on Facebook - why does it matter?

Ahhh! This is one of my pet peeves online! Imagine this! You are in a group, you have just had the best conversation with someone and you want to go back and ask them a question or search for them on Facebook. But they have changed their photo and you can't find them.

Or you are scrolling through a forum and someone shares an event, but you want to see who it was that shared it, and you can't tell.

Or you are trying to find an old friend and by the tiny little icon of a photo you can't tell if your friend is the one with the two cats (who you have never met), or the inspirational graphic with words on it, or the cartoon drawing, or the baby photo (cute but babies change so often!) or the photo of 6 friends together and you can't tell if your friend is one of them!

GO CHANGE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE so people can recognize YOU! You'll be posting in events and pages and groups and your personal photo will show up.

What your photo should have:
💫JUST YOU
✨Your face, clearly visible
💫A clean or natural background
✨Good lighting so people can tell it's you

If you don't like being in front of the camera, take some selfies, or ask a friend to help you, but the BEST way is to hire a photographer who knows who you love their work, or who specializes in branding or portraits. You CAN look good in photos.

Next time you have a great photo at a party with a friend, post it on your timeline. Don't change your profile photo.

Next time you see a graphic that you just love, add it as a post.

And keep the same photo up for a while. If you change it, make sure people can tell it's still you.

STAR ⭐️ TIP: Add a long caption to your photo describing you, your dreams and your links! People want to learn more about you! So type it out in the comments of your photos!

"How do I create a Boomerang?"

First what is a boomerang?
It is 3-10 seconds of a moving image or video like content. Boomerangs you can reverse (like the boomerang stick coming back to you in the air) or keep going forward.

They are super popular and GREAT because people who are scrolling through your feed will stop and notice, especially since it's so short!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE creative boomerangs! And coming up with fun ideas to make them!
My favorite are filming someone else doing something on a clean white wall.

Often I'll go with 2-three friends and we will go find a white wall of a building and take turns directing each other to create boomerangs. It's so silly, fun, we laugh AND we get fun content! If you can't think of anything, just stand there and jump. It kind of looks foolish at first but keep trying, the ideas get flowing and pretty soon you'll have a series of FUN CONTENT to schedule out for your social media!

Go to the App Store on your phone and download Boomerang. Then hold the record button down for as many seconds as your want your clips to be. Then you'll save to your photos and you can upload your favourite boomerangs online!

"Should I have a page or Group?" I get asked this question all the time!

I think both! They both have their own unique tools and different ways they would benefit!

I really recommend a group for a team!
These are some unique options you have with a Facebook group that you don't really get with a page.

🌱Start an archive of videos for your team or group that they can go back and reference!
🍃Do live Video on a regular basis and let your group get to know you and feel comfortable with you!
🌱Create a Facebook event specifically to remind group members. Oh I LOVE this option when I'm in a group and they are doing challenges or will have a teaching session I don't want to miss or have a special I want!
🍃Start a group album that everyone can add to! This is great especially if you are trying to collect something or cheer or encourage members on!
🌱Ask for help or recommendations-don't be the big stuffy expert! Ask your people for their knowledge! People love to give their feedback and opinions on social media!

"Armed with negative stereotypes about older women, companies still focus on millennials despite the greater financial firepower of 40-plussers. Says Rebecca, ‘By 2020 it is estimated that up to a third of the UK workforce will be 50-plus and they will control 80 per cent of the wealth.

'We know that 85 per cent of purchasing decisions are made by women and yet 91 per cent of women don’t believe advertisers understand them. This isn’t good enough.’

As a result, she adds, ‘Eighty-four per cent of the women we surveyed used products and services they felt were aimed at younger women.’

But the generation gap is closing. ‘Forty-plus women today look, feel and live differently than the generation before them.

Readability Grade 8? How easy is your copy/posts/words to understand?
This is probably one of Mee personal favorites. You think your copywriting is clear and conversational? Probably the opposite! We need to DUMB IT DOWN!!

We talk about our own products every day, so we understand the terminology more than the average user or customer ever will.

Because of that, it’s easy to fall victim to the curse of knowledge and include tech-speak in our writing. OFTEN TIMES we will LEAVE THINGS OUT, but those might be the key bits of info your customers NEED to know in order to BUY!

Plug your (words) copy into this brilliant tool, and it will tell you when you’re being confusing or overly wordy!!! I just love it so much!

I just read these stats from an online marketing firm. CRAZY!
Consumers spend $6.7 billion during Independence Day and $5.3 billion during Canada Day.
3 days left until Canada Day, and this year is a BIG one! How are you celebrating this 150-year celebration? I hope you have something red and white that you are offering as a sale or a contest for your customers!
And 6 days until July 4th, just enough time to create some marketing POW!
I recommend posting every day until the big events! Schedule them all right now if you can!

Tweaking how you go about telling a story on Social Media can be as simple as changing a couple of words.

Have you ever written something to delete it 50 times and then just give up?
When it comes to social media and you have a small business, don't let indecision stop you from posting. Sure it's awesome when you spell everything right, get your grammar done good 😊. But most important is that you connect with your audience.

Just write it already. Get it out there. Done is better than perfect.

For those of you who are using (or start using) your Personal feeds on facebook to reach your audience - did you know that you can schedule posts? WHAT! SAY WHAT!? Schedule a bunch of posts in advance on your personal timeline! YESSS!

On your laptop, go to create a post, and click on the icon that looks like a calendar. And schedule away!

So freaking love this feature! Facebook used to have this, and recently brought it back! Happy dance!

Biz Tip // When you're asking your clients or customers for feedback on services or products, ask for their thoughts + input, not just what they liked. And then use the good s**t as testimonials!

I think part of being an entrepreneur + good biz owner is being open to new ideas + ways to improve what you're doing... Doesn't mean you have to take the advice and action it, but you gotta ask.

Social media is an amazing resource for sharing things we love (or in the case of the rainbow coloured disaster of a beverage... can't believe is a real thing. Either way, it's a great way to get the word out!)

When you create an amazing product or service, AN EXPERIENCE with you, people can't help but talk about it.

It's more efficient and more effective! When people love something, they talk about it. Even if they don't get paid! People "sell" stuff everyday.

So DON'T be afraid to ask your community to share! Encourage it! Ask! Create hashtags for them to use, give them incentives or reasons to share. Meet your community where they are and give them value!!!!

STOP POSTING LINKS!! Create your own posts!!!
I have been spending days and days looking at services-help for birth. It's a very intimate service, and I was looking to see if I would like working with them.
I looked at over 50 pages. I saw the EXACT SAME links shared over and over again. Yes I like the inspiration, yes your quotes are cute. But I didn't need to read all of those links. I wasn't interested. Those seem interesting to you, they are part of your language. They aren't apart of my world. I want you to tell Mee why they are or should be important to Mee and most of all... I WANT TO SEE YOU!!

I want to see videos of you working, I want to see photos of you working. I want to see behind the scenes of you! I want to read your testimonials.
I want to hear from you. I want to watch live Facebook videos where I can see your very own lips moving. Instead of copy paste sharing a link THAT SOMEONE ELSE CREATED, I want you to tell Mee with your own words why that matters. Give Mee inspiration, tell Mee the birthing stories, but YOU TELL MEE, in your own words. Stop being afraid of video!
I want to tune into weekly Facebook live where you encourage us, where you answer my questions, where you tell us about resources and then post those links for us to click on later.
I want to be apart of your community, hear YOUR WHY! I mean why should I hire you in the first place? Why should I like your page? 5 doulas in the same area were so similar I got them all mixed up in my head. They all looked like the same business. There wasn't even a photo of who they looked like.
I want to see you, I want to see myself working with you, I want to start to imagine what that would be like, feel like. But you didn't show Mee how.
How are you unique, what's your personality like, how are you under tough situations? What are your beliefs and values, these are the things I want to know!

Just because your business might not be a Doula in particular-this still applies to you. You can't get away from it. Are people looking for that one service they need-they type in your genre on google or Facebook and they go through the list- will you stick out? Or will they blend your biz with all the rest?

Are you sharing yourself, your team, what you can do for Mee? Or are you sharing random links and not explaining yourself. STOP IT, cut it out, now, TIME OUT!!!

Link cleanse. For the next month I challenge you not to post another link - the only way you can do so is in the comments of a post or video where you talk about why it matters. Only CREATE OR DOCUMENT your life and your work with us. SHOW US your service. Answer the question, "what do I get from working with you?? What do I get out it?" Show us HOW. Show Mee what I would get from you.

And what is your WHY? Show us WHY YOU STARTED this in the first place. What is your passion, what are your beliefs? What are your values? Do videos. Stop being afraid, use your mobile phone-borrow a friends phone if you have to. Do daily or weekly check ins with Facebook Live. Answer questions, talk to your audience, get to know us and let us get to know you. Read us a chapter from your favorite book if you have to, just start talking, start showing us!!!! Start documenting. START WITH YOU + US!!!! Cut everything else out for now!
WHO ARE YOU? And why would I WANT TO WORK WITH YOU? How are you different? TELL MEE THE REAL TRUTH, the NITTY GRITTY.

End rant. Sorry I couldn't help it. There were two helpers that stood out in 50, now I'm off to message them. And it's funny but they both have specialized services and I think I'm going to work with BOTH. Specializing and showing Mee how they work made Mee see that I want to work with both.
And there were photos of themselves on their pages, so when I think of them I see their faces. I am 100% more likely to buy from a human than from a stale brand. It matters.

Stop turning your back on your audience and jump in and get EXCITED with them!! Ok now really. End rant.

Reviews/testimonials are so important online! Already super important on Google, now they are super important on Facebook! And will keep getting better and better! The more reviews you have, the more facebook will put your work in front of other people!
Specifically IN THEIR NEWSFEEDS, without you having to pay for ads!

HOW do you get Reviews? You ask! Ask Ask Ask.
Ways to ask:
-In Messenger, email or facebook message someone and ask them
-Text or call them
-When you hear someone saying something great about you, ask
-After a session with you, ask
-Give them a piece of paper with your link on it, and ask
-Enter them into a giveaway, ask
-At your store counter, have a sign, and ask
-After they buy your product, ask
-Face to face, ask.
Really really that simple.

A tip I have been using that seems to work really well for Facebook posts and engagement!
After you post on your page, in the comment section, tag 5-10 people you know will love that post. You can't comment on your phone, so you'll have to do this tip on your laptop or computer.
My engagement per week was about 70 on my page.
After tagging people in the comment section, my reach went to 480. WOWzers-big number difference! I ❤️ it!

The strategy: I've found that I should tag people every couple of posts, unless I KNOW someone will really love that post-or if you tag someone every post, make sure to mix up who you tag, you can use, "I wrote this with you in mind."
Ask followers to mention people in your comments. The more people tagged in your comments the more fun the party becomes!
You CAN "tag" people in the photo, but I recommend "tagging" them in the comments, if you are going to tag them more than in one post.

It's all about growing your community! I seriously write this with people in mind, who have asked Mee questions or I know they will really benefit from this advice. Tag people and see if it works!! Do it-every second post! See how your engagement rises!
