CovidCare packs for refugees & migrants in Morocco

À Tanger, au Maroc, divers groupes et individus originaires Afrique subsaharienne (Nigeria, Guinée, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Cote d’ivoire, Senegal, Mali, etc.) vivent dans des conditions précaires en marge de la ville, en tant que "migrants" et "réfugiés". Beaucoup sont musulmans. Beaucoup n'ont pas les moyens de sacrifier un mouton pour l'Aïd al-Adha.

Aidez-nous à acheter des moutons pour l'Aïd, afin que nous puissions faire un sacrifice et célébrer ensemble.

Cette collecte de fonds est demandée par Irène Ledoux, la présidente de la communauté camerounaise. Irène travaillera en collaboration avec d'autres associations communautaires subsahariennes pour organiser la célébration et le sacrifice de l'Aïd.

Nous partagerons les photos de la célébration avec tous les donateurs par la suite. Vous trouverez ci-dessous des photos des célébrations de l'Aïd que les membres de l'équipe ont déjà organisées.

In Tangier, many migrants and refugees have to sleep in the forests on the outskirts of the city this winter. Without access to housing, they are exposed to the cold.

That is why I am fundraising for 150 thick blankets to help people in the forest keep warm this winter. Each blanket costs about 200 Moroccan dirhams (€19 Euro / £17).

I am also in contact with 20 women with children in need of assistance with their rent. Some of the available funds may also be used to support them, if necessary, to avoid immediate eviction.

The Moroccan government has extended the state of emergency again -- now until September 10, and then we will see. The number of coronavirus cases are escalating in Tangier. Many migrants in the north of the country have been deported further south. At least 12 subsaharan migrants have tested positive for Coronavirus in the Tangier area. We need to continue to support people with vital provisions to help stop the spread of the virus and ensure access to housing, food, medicines and safety. It is because of the difficulty of paying the rents that pushes them to look for money in the streets. Thank you for your support.

Le gouvernement marocain a de nouveau prolongé l'état d'urgence - maintenant jusqu'au 10 septembre, et ensuite nous le verrons. Le nombre de cas de coronavirus augmente à Tanger. Le concours de projet Innovant (I.P.C) organisé par l’OJA dans le cadre du Projet « For THEM » en partenariat avec l’OIM et l'Agence Catalane de Coopération au Développement.
Ce concours s'adresse aux jeunes initiateurs des projets d’entrepreneurial, âgés de 18 à 35 ans, dont l’objectif est de promouvoir la création d’opportunités chez les jeunes, en les accompagnant à la rédaction de leurs projets.
Critères d’éligibilité
- Avoir un projet innovant répondant à des problématiques concrètes ;
- Être africain et résidant dans les villes : Tanger et Tétouan ;
- Être âgé de 18 à 35 ans ;
- Avoir un projet intégrant la dimension sociale et environnementale.
Déroulement du processus
Phase 1 :
- Sélection des 10 meilleurs projets après réception des candidatures ;
- Dix jours d’atelier de cadrage des projets retenus ;
- Préparation des porteurs de projet au pitch.
Phase 2 :
- Présentation des projets ;
- Trois meilleurs projets primés ;
- Le networking ;
- Vaste campagne médiatique au tour des projets retenus.
Prix :
- 1er prix : PC core i5 ;
- 2eme prix: PC core i3;
- 3eme prix: Tablette;

I am writing to say thank you! I want to let you know that so far, we have helped 15 single mothers with a total of 25 children, who were facing immediate eviction. Each family was given 700 – 800 DH (£57-67, €63-75) depending on their specific circumstances. Different mothers came from Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea or Congo. We also bought some medical supplies (306DH) for one child with an injury in need of immediate treatment. Thank you very much.

We have created a new fundraiser to help refugee and migrant families avoid immediate eviction. A small amount of emergency rent support can stop women and children being forced to roam the streets at night.

Refugee and migrant families in Morocco don't have access to state welfare -- even now. And because of the confinement measures in Morocco, people aren't even allowed to ask for money on streets in day to help cover these rents.

UPDATE 04/06/2020, 17:20h: According to the Turkish CG, this 2nd boat that called us in distress with about 35 people was intercepted to Turkey. Their last GPS position had shown them in Greek waters. Before they were picked-up by the Turkish CG, they said their engine had been taken away & left adrift.

SOS! Second boat in Aegean not rescued!

About 35 people on a 2nd boat are in panic in Greek waters near Lesvos. They said: ‘Greek boats are here but haven’t rescued us. Is it because we are black? We demand from Europe to rescue us. We have kids & babies on board.’

I am raising money to help out refugees and migrants in Tangier, who are in a really difficult situation right now. Your help could make so much difference. It would really help people protect their own lives.

With 250 Moroccan Dirham (£20 / €23), I can provide a supply of essential food and protective equipment to one household for a week.

Many refugees and migrants are going hungry now. Masks and hand-santiser are especially important for people without regular access to a sink and soap, or a stable address of their own.

I hope to provide approximately 200 such packages until the Coronavirus confinement ends. I will re-assess as the situation develops.

About me

I have lived in Tangier, Morocco for over ten years now. I came here as an irregular migrant myself, but I currently have a job and stable residency status. I am in contact with a lot of people who are living as refugees and migrants In Tangier. To be precise, I am in direct contact with 134 children, 129 men and 158 women who are going hungry right now because they cannot go to the shops. The number of people I will be able to help will depend on how much money I raise.

What I will do

I will buy and deliver care packages to households. These care packages will include essential food items to sustain people and vital medical supplies according to people’s needs. I will send regular updates letting you know exactly what the money has been spent on via GoFundme.

Why

Life was already precarious for many sub-Saharan migrants and refugees in Morocco. Covid19, and the controls to slow its spread, has made things even more difficult. Now people are living in hiding. Black people without certain immigration papers are afraid of being deported, if they are stopped and questioned by the police when they go to the shops. Countless numbers of people lose their lives as the result of such deportations. We fear many will starve in hiding without access to vital food and key medical resources. Thank you for any help.

Maintenant, les gens vivent cachés. Les Noirs sans certains papiers d'immigration ont peur d'être expulsés s'ils sont arrêtés et interrogés par la police lorsqu'ils se rendent dans les magasins. D'innombrables personnes perdent la vie à la suite de ces déportations. Nous craignons que beaucoup meurent de faim en se cachant sans avoir accès à des aliments vitaux et à des ressources médicales essentielles. Merci pour toute aide.
