Doplgenger is an artist duo from Belgrade, comprising Isidora Ilić and Boško Prostran.
Doplgenger engages as a film/video artist, researcher, writer, and curator. The work of Doplgenger deals with the relation between art and politics by exploring the regimes of moving images and the modes of their reception. They rely on the tradition of experimental and avant-garde film, and through some of the actions of these traditions intervene on the existing media products or work in expande

IMAGES OF PAST AS IMAGES FOR THE FUTURE is a part of an artistic research project called “Fragments Untitled” that examines the media’s participation in the construction of historical narratives in Yugoslavia in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The lecture-performance discusses the problem of remembering, representing and giving voice to distant histories through images from the media, the politics of archiving, audiovisual experiments and the impact of this language on the viewer.

🔸 For decades in the European peripheries we have ignored considerations about our entanglement in the histories of colonialism and de-colonization that shaped the public discourse in both the Global South and the Global North. The East Central European (ECE) and South East European (SEE) states have for the most part not participated directly in colonization efforts and have, through an anti-imperialist stance during different implementations of state socialisms, expressed a declarative anti-colonial position. Nevertheless, the European peripheries, historically subordinated to different empires until the beginning of the 20th century, have been affected by the history of colonialism and coloniality. As a result, they have been part of the global relations created through this history.
🔸 The works in the exhibition approach the question of othering and de-colonization, both from the need to decolonize the countries that constitute what is called the ECE and SEE, many of which were historically part of European empires that prospered through exploitation enabled by colonial expansion. It is also important to note that these peripheries have, in different ways, experienced othering by the West, which was strikingly obvious in the 1990s during the dissolution of the former socialist system.

Soda Jerk pravi faund futidž filmove sa lažnim dokumentarističkim impulsom, a po prvi put će u Beogradu prikazati svoj dugometražni remiks film „Hello Dankness“, dobitnika mnogih festivalskih nagrada, koji je premijerno prikazan na Berlinalu 2023. godine. 🎥🏆
„Hello Dankness“ je politička basna koja sledi psihotropni spektakl američke politike od 2016. do 2021. godine, kao i mitove i znanja koji su se oko ovog spektakla ukorenili. U formi prigradskog stoner mjuzikla, film prati američko susedstvo tokom ovog vremenskog perioda, dok se realnost zasnovana na konsenzusu raspada u teorijama zavere i drugim zarazama. 🎞️

Posted • The 22nd edition of Videobrasil—an open call exhibition—proposes the Global South as an "imagined community" of different cultures united in solidarity against hegemonic historical narratives, writes Oliver Basciano.
[ Doplgenger’s Fragments untitled (2012–22), a four-channel video work for which the Serbian duo have edited and collaged television footage broadcast around the dissolution of Yugoslavia, feels equally haunted. One of the floor monitors shows a compilation of perturbed looks, opening and closing doors, phones ringing, and sharp breaths from soap operas and dramas of the era; in the most recent of the series, we see footage of the infamous Dinamo Zagreb–Red Star Belgrade riot, which took place between Croat and Serb fans at Maksimir Stadium in May 1990, digitally manipulated—in a style reminiscent of Paul Pfeiffer—so that only the riot police remain. They maneuver around the silent pitch, ill-equipped and lost, their foe absent. ]

Provođenjem formalne i diskurzivne analize filmskog materijala i jezika, predavanja-performansi umjetničkog dua Doplgenger kreiranjem filmsko-montažnih nizova izvode i iščitavaju blokove slika jugoslavenske kinematografije kao dokumente i projekcije socijalističkog društva. Performativno predavanje ukazuje na napuštanje ideje ženske emancipacije, koja je prisutna u filmovima do početka šezdesetih, i na sve prisutniju retradicionalizaciju društva.

Among the guests at the opening week are Ali Cherri, who is showing the film "DAM" for the first time in Brazil; Doplgenger, Kent Chan and Thi My Lien Nguyen, who are giving performances; a series of artists participating in the Biennale such as Antonio Pichilla Quiacain, Eduardo Montelli, Guadalupe Rosales, Leila Danziger, Maksaens Denis, Natalia Lassalle-Morillo, Froiid, Pamela Cevallos, Tirzo Martha, Vitória Cribb, Youqine Lefèvre, Zé Carlos Garcia; mediators Paula Nascimento, Siddarthha Perez, Siddartha Mitter and Ying Kwok; and special guests such as Anna Bella Geiger and Vivian Ostrovsky.
