However, there are a lot of other confusing word pairs in English. Knowing them might put you in an advantageous situation when you have to use English professionally.
ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာစကားမှာ အပေါ်ကနေ ပေးထားတဲ့ စကားစု ၂ ခုလို ဟိုလိုလို ဒီလို ဒွိဟဖြစ်စရာ စာလုံးလေးတွေ ရှိပါသေးတယ်။ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောတဲ့အခါမှ မှားတတ်တဲ့ ဒီလို စကားစုလေး ၃ ခုကို ပြောပါရစေ။

Let’s take a look at 3 of the most confusing pairs in English.

1. Lie Vs. Lay

Lie = To recline or rest on a surface
(မျက်နှာပြင်တစ်ခုအပေါ်တွင် လဲလျောင်းခြင်း။)

[Example: Mom’s currently lying down on her bed. She seems pretty tired.]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ လောလောဆယ် အမေ သူ့ကုတင်ပေါ်မှာ လှဲနေတယ်။ သူ့ကို ကြည့်ရတာ ပင်ပန်းနေပုံပဲ။]

Lay = To put or place something
(နေရာချထားသည်။)

[Example: I clearly remember that this is where I had laid my bracelet.]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ ငါသေချာမှတ်မိတယ်။ ငါ့လက်ကောက်ကို ဒီမှာပဲ ငါထားခဲ့တာ။]

2. Affect Vs. Effect

Affect = To influence on something or someone (တစ်စုံတစ်ခု သို့မဟုတ် တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက် အပေါ်တွင် လွှမ်းမိုးနိုင်သည်၊ စိုးမိုးနိုင်သည်။)

[Example: I am convinced that deforestation is severely affecting the weather and temperature today.]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ ငါသေချာပေါက် ယုံကြည်တာက သစ်တောတွေ ပြုန်းတီးလာတာက ဒီနေ့ခေတ် ရာသီဉတုနဲ့ အပူချိန်အပေါ်မှာ ဆိုးရွားစွာ အကျိုးသက်ရောက်မှုရှိတယ်ဆိုတာပဲ။]

Effect = Result/ Impact
(ရလဒ်/ အကျိုးသက်ရောက်မှု။)

[Example: What is the effect of procrastination on your previous exam?]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ အချိန်ဆွဲ အီးရောအီးရော လုပ်တာက မင်းရဲ့ နောက်ဆုံးစာမေးပွဲအပေါ်မှာ ဘယ်လိုရလဒ်မျိုးပေးခဲ့လဲ?]

3. Anyway Vs. Any Way

Anyway = Regardless ဘယ်လိုပဲ ဖြစ်ဖြစ်

[Example: My work finished pretty late yesterday. Anyway, we aren’t canceling our date night.]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ ငါ့အလုပ်က မနေ့က တော်တော် နောက်ကျမှ ပြီးတယ်။ ဘယ်လိုပဲ ဖြစ်ဖြစ် ငါတို့ ချိန်းတွေ့မယ့်ညလေးကို တော့ အပျက်မခံနိုင်ဘူး။]

Any Way = In any method or way
(ဘယ်နည်းလမ်းနဲ့ဖြစ်ဖြစ်။)

[Example: I am not letting my mother down again in any way.]
[ဉပမာ။ ။ ဘယ်နည်းလမ်းနဲ့ဖြစ်ဖြစ် ငါ့အမေ့ကို ထပ်ပြီး စိတ်မပျက်စေရဘူး။]

You are right. It’s the Labor Day @ International Workers Day. In celebration of this momentous day, we are going to educate you with some lexical resources related to employment/ work.
ဟုတ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီနေ့ကတော့ ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝှမ်းက ဝန်ထမ်းတွေ အကုန်လုံးကို အသိအမှတ်ပြုတဲ့ အလုပ်သမားနေ့ ဆိုတဲ့ အထိမ်းအမှတ်နေ့လေးပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီနေ့ကို ပါဝင်ဆင်နွှဲတဲ့အနေနဲ့ အလုပ်နဲ့ ပက်သက်တဲ့ ဝေါဟာရလေးတွေကို တင်ပေးပါရစေ။

9. Basic Salary = The amount of money an employee earns before having any addition or deductions [အခြားပေါင်းထည့်ပေးသော သို့မဟုတ် နှုတ်သော အခကြေးငွေများ မပါသေးသည့် အခြေခံလစာ။]

10. 16.Vacancy = A position to be filled at work [အလုပ်နေရာတစ်ခုတွင် လစ်လပ်နေသော ရာထူး။]

17.Interview = A verbal conversation between a potential employer and job applicant [အလုပ်မခန့်အပ်ခင်တွင် အနာဂတ် အလုပ်ရှင်နှင့် အလုပ်လျှောက်သူ နှစ်ဦးကြား ပြောလေ့ရှိသည့် စကားပြောဆိုမှူ။]

18.Apprenticeship = Internship; Traineeship [အလုပ်သင်ဆင်းခြင်း။]

19.Notice = To inform one’s intention to voluntarily resign from a job to the supervisor or HR [မိမိသဘောဆန္ဒဖြင့် အလုပ်မှ နှုတ်မထွက်ခင် အလုပ်ရှင်/ ကြီးကြပ်သူ/ သက်ဆိုင်ရာ ဌာနကို အလုပ်ထွက်မည့် အကြောင်း ကြိုတင် အကြောင်းကြားခြင်း။]

20.Payslip = A document with details on one’s basic salary, tax and other deductions and paid to the employee on every payday [လစာပေးသည့်နေ့တွင် ‌ပေးသည့် မိမိလစာကို အသေးစိတ် တွက်ချက်ပြထားသော စာရွက်စာတမ်း။]

We’ve selected 5 easy idioms for our Smarties to learn today.

ကြည့်ကြည့်ကြရအောင်။

1. Down in the dumps

Example: Maung Maung seems to be down in the dumps. His girlfriend broke up with him after 7 years of dating.
မောင်မောင့်ကိုကြည့်ရတာ စိတ်ညစ်နေသလိုပဲ။ သူ့ကောင်မလေးက သူနဲ့ ၇ နှစ်တောင်တွဲပြီးမှ ပြတ်သွားတာကိုး။

2. Feeling blue

Example: Why does he look like he is feeling blue almost everyday?
သူ့ကြည့်ရတာ ဘာလို့ နေ့တိုင်းလိုလို စိတ်ညစ်နေသလိုဖြစ်နေတာလဲ?

3. Down in the mouth
(Usually used to describe other people’s mood or feeling)

Example: My grandfather looks down in the mouth. Maybe he’s missing his long-gone wife again.
ငါ့အဘိုးကို ကြည့်ရတာ မရွှင်မပျနဲ့။ ဆုံးသွားတဲ့ သူ့အမျိုးသမီးကို သတိရပြန်ပြီ ထင်တယ်။

4. Reduce to tears
- If someone/ something reduces you to tears, they make you extremely unhappy that you cry.

Example: My thesis supervisor reduced me to tears with his criticism today.

5. Lump in your throat
- A tight feeling in your throat because of a strong emotion such as sadness

Example: This movie is just plain saddening that I get a lump in my throat.

Today, we would like to enrich you with some additional knowledge on IELTS Task 1 and the types of tasks you might encounter.
ဒီနေ့မှာတော့ IELTS Task 1 မေးခွန်းမှာပါ‌တဲ့ ပုံအမျိုးအစားလေးတွေအကြောင်းကို ထပ်ဆောင်းပြီး ပြောပြသွားချင်ပါတယ်။

Task 1 writing seems pretty intimidating to some of us but worry no more!
Task 1 မေးခွန်းကိုကြည့်ရင် ခက်ခဲနက်နဲတယ်လို့ ထင်ကောင်းထင်နိုင်ပေမယ့် Smarties လေး‌တို့ စိတ်မပူဖို့ ပြောချင်ပါတယ်။

Let’s get it simplified by getting to understand what types of charts you can expect in IELTS Task 1 writing. 👀
အဲဒီတော့ Task 1 မေးခွန်းမှာ တွေ့ရတတ်တဲ့ ပုံလေးတွေအကြောင်းကို ရိုးရိုးရှင်းရှင်းလေး တစ်ချက် ကြည့်ကြည့်ကြရအောင်။

As we all know, IELTS Writing includes 2 types of Task: Task 1 and 2. In Task 1 Writing of IELTS, we are provided with a set/ sets of visual materials such as diagrams, charts and tables, from which we select and report some data in our written essay.
IELTS Writing လို့ ဆိုလိုက်တာနဲ့ Task 1 နဲ့ Task 2 မေးခွန်းဆိုပြီး ၂ ပိုင်းရှိတယ်ဆိုတာ အားလုံးပဲ သိကြမယ် ထင်ပါတယ်။ Task 1 မေးခွန်းမှာဆိုရင်တော့ ပုံ တစ်ပုံ သို့မဟုတ် ပုံ အများ ကို ပေးထားပြီး ကိုယ်က ပုံထဲက သင့်တော်ရာ အချက်အလက်ကို ပြန်လည် ကောက်နှုတ်ပြီး တင်ပြရတာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

In short, we can expect 6 types of charts in this Task 1.
အတိုချုုံးပြောရရင်တော့ ပုံ ၆ မျိုး ရှိပါတယ်။

📌Maps

Sometimes, the question involves only 1 type of visual material but often, there can be more than one type of visual material in one question. Sometimes, you might be given a pair of charts of just one question, which we may call “Mixed Data/ Mixed Charts” in IELTS Task 1 Writing.

💢Bursting with joy

Example: My sister and her husband are bursting with joy. They are finally expecting after 7 years of attempts.

Tr.Mon requested this post which is unusual for the content of Simply Smart Page. She would like to share this book she finished reading a few weeks ago, “Love for Imperfect Things” by Haemin Sunim for our audience. It was published in 2016 but still worthy to share to those who don’t know. So, just for today, Simply Smart would like to upload a book recommendation post.

First, let’s start with the content of the book. There are 8 chapters in this book: Self-Care, Family, Empathy, Relationships, Courage, Healing, Enlightenment and Acceptance. Each chapter will help you heal from all negativity and toxic thoughts in your life. It will teach you self-love, how to be kind to yourself and how to overcome some relationship burnouts through practical day-to-day practices.

Personally speaking, while I was reading this book, I felt like having a warm and peaceful conversation with someone I have known for a long time. It was so relaxing and gave me solutions to my problems.
For those English learners, the sentences are mostly simple and easy to understand for interpretation. It does not include long complex structures so that you can easily follow. Besides, most of the pages are about beautiful quotes which will motivate you to continue reading.

So, if you are betrayed by your loved ones, or if you want to take a break from your going too fast life or looking for a good English book to read, please remember this book!
