🌟 Meet the Founders of Hlaing Thar Yar Kids! 🌟

Kate and Angela, high school seniors graduating in 2025, are the main contributors to the project. They have dedicated their passion and time to supporting the children of Hlaing Thar Yar, personally leading all the classes and teaching the students every week. They also manage the project's logistics, such as financial matters and coordinating community outreach. 📣 Introducing Hlaing Thar Yar Kids! 📣

Hello everyone! Welcome to Hlaing Thar Yar Kids! We are very excited to introduce our little project aimed at improving education in the community of Hlaing Thar Yar. We hope you can join us as we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of these kids!

🤔 What is Hlaing Thar Yar Kids?

It is a charity teaching initiative led by international school students to provide educational support to the children of Hlaing Thar Yar township. Every Saturday, many children from the township come to class where they learn basic English skills such as writing and speaking.

🙋 How was Hlaing Thar Yar Kids formed?

After living in Hlaing Thar Yar for many years, Kate Nang Nang (founder of Hlaing Thar Yar Kids) noticed that the children in the township were falling behind in their education. The COVID pandemic caused years of missed schooling for children all over Myanmar, resulting in children growing older without a corresponding increase in their educational level. To combat this issue, Nang Nang and her friend KayThari Tin (co-founder) brainstormed and decided to establish a non-profit teaching class. Thus, Hlaing Thar Yar Kids was born.

Hlaing Thar Yar Kids began in early March 2024 with just six children. By June, the project had grown significantly, with about 20 children attending classes every Saturday. In class, students are taught the four basic skills of English. At the end of each session, they receive healthy snacks for replenishment before heading home with smiles on their faces.

But the growth of Hlaing Thar Yar Kids isn't going to stop here. We have begun initiating plans to organize bakery fundraisers where we will sell cookies to the public to raise some money for our student's education; with the funds we make, we will purchase books and potentially establish a mini-library for all children in the community to access and enjoy.

As student numbers are expected to grow, we welcome international school students from 8th grade and above who wish to make a positive impact on the township of Hlaing Thar Yar to volunteer at our classes.
