One of the most stressful jobs in the world is to run a concrete batching plant.

For your customer, his concrete pour is the most important in the world - as he has so much at stake. The whole organisation of your client is solely focused on the concrete pour that day. We began documenting the observations, modifying the processes and finally producing a consistent concrete production.

Hi,

Do you know that the shape of the Coarse Aggregates that you are using in your concrete can be a pain in your head?

Very rarely we pay attention to the shape of the aggregates. But the shape of the aggregates decides the surface area of the aggregates. This surface area of the coarse aggregates decides the quality of your mix. Because the aggregate surfaces have to be properly coated - painted by the paste in the concrete mix. This painting job is done by the paste through sand, Cementitious Materials and Water.

A good painting job gives a good Workability, Pumpability and Finish to the concrete.

If you have cubical shaped Coarse Aggregates compared to Flaky aggregates then the concrete makes your life easier – because cubical aggregates they have less surface area - hence less requirement for the paste – and less requirement of painting.

So, if you are a good painter, you will use cubical aggregates instead of flaky aggregates and this will give you a good sleep at night.

Now, do you know that most of these problems arise due to fines present in a crushed sand.

With the vast experience that I have in concrete mix design, I have developed a new type of concrete which I call BBC (Ball Bearing concrete)

There are actually 2 graphs addition and subtraction curves (You won’t find them in any book or anywhere on the internet) that I have developed by gathering lots of data.

By using these curves, you can reduce the sand content in your mix and add fly ash which will solve all of the above problems.

Do you know which grade of cement is most widely used in India these days?

OPC 53 GRADE CEMENT

But 50 years ago, we were using OPC 33 grade and it would take many years to construct even a 10 storey building.

So, to increase the speed of construction, we shifted to OPC 53 grade over the years and the same building can now be constructed in a year.

But what about the life of the structure?

IT HAS GOT REDUCED FROM 100 YEARS TO 40 YEARS.

And then came the two MAGIC MATERIALS – fly ash and GGBFS - that can be used along with the OPC 53 grade cement and the life of the structure can be increased to 120 YEARS.
