It’s not everyday that you have .metsola & Neil is the same room, but when you do, you can’t help but feel inspired and proud for the what they have achieved both locally and internationally.

This morning Roberta, despite her insanely packed schedule made the time to visit Neil and some of his team at .zen.hub

Roberta and Neil represent pushing boundaries in their own context and inspiring the next generation to embody the mindset of never giving up.

Looking forward to Ocean Mindset at a European level in 2025 🚀

Slow down • Tune in • Expand

Today is a reminder to slow down and tune into your surroundings.

We often get caught up in the race agasint life, trying to squeeze in each and every opportunity, trying to please everyone and everything.

When we operate in this way we do not give ourselves time to;

👉Appreciate life
👉Enjoy the moment
👉Expand and learn from the experience

Wondering how long this can go on until you are mentally and physically exhausted, burnt out.

Today is the day you change🔥

Take a deep breath in and on the exhale let’s find the courage to slow down.

Just remember that what you are chasing will always be there tomorrow.

Over the last years the journey of transitioning from athlete into the corporate world has been incredible.

I’ve been able to apply so many of challenges and lessons I learn during my long swims to the the daily challenges and opportunities everyone faces during their work day.

Excited to continue to share these with you all through the Ocean Mindset.

Swimming through the rough sea brings its challenges but it also brings opportunity to tune into the nature and become one with the waves.

Slightly adjusting the length and roll of my body to dance with the ocean.

At this point I feel in complete connection and one with the most powerful sources in the world

🐋

The ocean is my biggest teacher.

This picture speaks a thousand words.

I’m finding it hard to understand how so many people turned up with such short notice.

When I was climbing up the ladder everyone watched in complete silence as I made my way to the chair.

A moment I will remember forever but also so hard to put into words.

It will be great to understand how you felt at that moment.

Lets me know in the comments below 👇👇👇👇

Thank you to the team that have been working round the clock to hand all of the necessary documents to ratify this together with World Open Water Swimming Association.

Official new World Record for the longest, unassisted, current-neutral ocean swim 142.3 km swim in 60 hours, 35 minutes, and 4 seconds, starting from Mellieha Bay and finishing at Għar Lapsi on September 23, 2024.

Thank you to the team for supporting me throughout this journey even until today working tirelessly to ensure that all docs were handed into WOWSA.

We deeply appreciate the team from WOWSA for ratifying the swim in a timely manner and giving the swim so much time and attention as soon you heard of it .

This is the new way🐋

Lara Vella has been with me on this journey from the very beginning.

As my partner living together she has to make an unimaginable amount sacrifices in order to help me achieve my dreams.

This ranges from essentially not having a social life in order for me to rest and be ready for my next big training session to putting our plans of our future on hold.

During the swim she is my rock sitting and watching me swim for hours on end, we have a unique way of communicating with each other just with our eye contact while I swim stroke by stoke through the highs and the lows.

Besides all that she is a shoulder to lean on for the rest of the team while they try to navigate me through the storms.

Lara, thank you for being you. A strong, independent woman with the softest touch who knows what she wants and how to get it 💃.

Understanding Neil’s why for the swim 👇🏻

Whilst Neil swam for over 60 hours, and hosted cleans ups to promote cleaner seas around Malta and Gozo. Neil’s swim is done, but our joint mission to protect marine lives and our waters has only just begun and will continue very soon.

Protecting our seas and Neil’s swim symbolize how -

“This swim is a testament to human resilience, and it’s a message to the world,” Agius declared. “If we can face the toughest of seas and prevail, we can take on the toughest challenges our planet faces, too. Together, there’s nothing we can’t achieve.”

Neil makes swimming like this look effortless, but the truth is that many a times he’s in a vulnerable space and has to dig deep to keep moving forward.

Leading up to this World Record attempt swim, Neil explained to his team how ‘he’s only focusing on how good and efficient I am in the last 20 hours and how I can continue to improve on that in next 28 minutes”.

Neil asks his team to point out any things he can correct in his stroke and constant updates on his stroke rate. He might be swimming into his second night but he remains sharp throughout.

Kurt Arrigo Photography shot some incredible photos of Neil just before the 2nd sunset and we’re in awe of how low he manages to keep his head as he swims into his 35+ hours.

The cause behind the swim

Swimming Coach, Olympian & record-breaker

Neil has been swimming competitively for the past 22 years. He represented Malta at the 2004 Olympics in Athens - an experience most athletes only dare to dream of!

His drive to combine his persona! Goal with a wider need to address the evergrowing issue of plastic polluting the seas he so loves developed into the 'Wave of Change' movement.

Neil, one of the pioneers behind the movement of Wave of change.
