🕯️✝️ Today, we honour St. Augustine, whose journey from a life of indulgence to becoming a pivotal figure in Church history still inspires. As Pope Benedict XVI said, St. Augustine teaches us 'not to be afraid of the Truth...God will not fail to provide light to see by, and warmth to make the heart feel that he loves us.'
📖 Did you know? St. Augustine wrote over 5 million words, including "Confessions," his spiritual autobiography.

🤔 Reflection: How can Augustine's journey inspire us to seek truth and transformation in our own lives?

🕯️ Pakistan: One Year After the Jaranwala Violence, Pain Persists

A year ago, on August 16, 2023, the city of Jaranwala in Pakistan witnessed a terrible wave of anti-Christian violence. In a single day:

• More than 25 churches were burned and ransacked • At least 85 Christian homes were destroyed • Thousands of Christians were displaced

One year later, the situation remains tense. Bishop Indrias Rehmat of Faisalabad testifies: "People are frightened and feeling hopeless because so far justice has not been given to them."

The Christian community lives in fear of new attacks and frustration over the impunity of the perpetrators. Of the 305 people arrested, only 5 are still in detention.

On this sad anniversary, let us unite in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Pakistan. May peace and justice finally prevail in Jaranwala and throughout the country. 🙏

Intimate understanding and relish of the truth is part of discernment, the spiritual practice of noticing the movements within our hearts and souls, and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, using these insights to understand where God is leading us. Reflecting on our daily experience and noticing consolation and desolation deepens our relationship with God and make us more sensible of his will.

On the feast of St. Ignatius, let us be inspired by his example of discernment and attune to the "motions of our souls", understanding where and when God is acting.
