Le projet du troisième câble optique immergé avance selon l’échéancier prévu. Ce n’est pas surprenant que Maurice puisse en disposer l’an prochain. Dans un entretien accordé à Capacitymedia, Arunachalam Kandasamy, fondateur et CEO de l’Indian Ocean Xchange Ltd, un des promoteurs du projet, confie que l’année 2017 a été chargée. «(.. .) Les travaux ont débuté le mois dernier. Nous sommes en mesure de livrer le troisième câble de 8 850 kilomètres en 2019 » (…) Notre câble a un parcours très intéressant. Il desservira différents points géographiques. Pour Maurice, nous offrons un réseau ouvert à haut régime qui apportera une plus grande capacité de résilience pour stimuler l’économie. Nous serons connectés à Rodrigues qui est sans réseau de câble sous-marin. L’arrivée de ce câble transformera la connectivité et le paysage économique de cette île », poursuit le Chief Executive Officer de l’Indian Ocean Xchange (IOX). Il souligne que l’Afrique du Sud aura aussi sa route directe et la moins courte vers l’Asie et les membres du Brésil, Russie, Inde, Chine et Afrique du Sud (BRICS). « Pour l’Inde, nous avons une approche multicouche où nous connectons le sous-continent indien avec l’Afrique et au-delà. Les fournisseurs globaux auront désormais une nouvelle route dans l’hémisphère sud où ils peuvent se connectés au câble IOX et nos partenaires. Éventuellement, les partenaires peuvent, à travers notre câble, se connecter à l’Asie, à l’Afrique, à l’Europe, à l’Amérique du Sud et à l’Amérique du Nord, faisant des routes qui n’existaient pas auparavant », explique Arunachalam Kandasamy.
