New Hope Stables

We are a small stable on a small island Horsemanship lessons are available by appointment.

The focus of these lessons is horse care and handling in a natural and compassionate way.

Swipe to see the "before" pics.

Bit of a difference.
Also, I still don't have staff, so everything has been done by myself or my mom, by hand.

In that second one, that's 100 bags of sawdust bedding thrown over my fence because the guy decided to deliver when I was out getting horsefeed.
As I have no staff, the stables are locked when we're not there.

So I had to do a few trips with the 4x4 to get it all into the storage stable, but not before the horses found it, played in it, and used it as a toilet. ๐Ÿ‘

Dobby is still around. Comes and goes as he pleases.

Season's Greetings! ๐Ÿ˜ And an update!

I've recently had a change of career and will be taking a break from the equine industry.

Thank you so much to all of my clients for your support over the past 6 years!

For now, I will just be treating my own horses and focusing on my new career.

This also means that New Hope Stables will be closed for the foreseeable future. We will not be offering any lessons or training of any kind. Entry will be by invitation only ๐Ÿ˜Š

I will continue to post as usual. The focus will just shift slightly. If you would like to follow the progress from an overgrown field to a home for our 6 horses, you are welcome!

Slowly getting closer to the dream ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Dirty? OK.
Got a few bite marks from socialising like normal horses? OK.
Live outside with free choice access to a stable/shelter? Great.
Working on the 24/7 access to forage and a forage based/forage only diet.
What do horses actually want? That's much more interesting to me than what's most convenient for humans.

Hi everyone, we are trying to find a pensioner or half-pensioner for Pera. He is a lovely little horse, about 15.1hh and would suit a small adult.
We are hoping that he can stay at New Hope Stables in herd environment and enjoying some freedom.
We are also open to discussing smaller, semi-pensions at this time.

I personally am quite attached to this little horse as I treated him on the racetrack and later in his riding career.

Patiently waiting for the vet next to the hole that he absolutely did not kick in the wall while arguing with Cody.

All the boys had a check-up and are doing okay, which is nice since we tend to panic for no reason...frequently.
Mr Bean got some meds and a plan, so we're all good ๐Ÿ˜Œ

13/09/2023

Old man privilege ๐Ÿ˜† Mr Bean has had a rough few months. He's starting to pick up again, but he's just not thriving the way I like him to be.

He's a very picky eater and always lets the other horses bully him off the grass, so for now, he's going to be the only one turned out in the new paddock.

The vet is coming out this week, so we'll see if there's anything we can do to help him feel better and pick up some weight.

It's his birthday soon! Next month, he turns 22.

My little helper ๐Ÿคฃ Spoiler - he's not that good at helping. He's better at causing chaos and distracting everyone, usually by trying to eat inedible things.

I have a nasty flu right now so just doing little bits here and there.

Forcing myself not to work is really difficult ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Thought I might as well post these here too!

The original post is on

This is a rough guide, so a lot of horses don't fit into it exactly as they are all individuals with their own unique issues.

I do have packages available for frequent treatments and multiple horses at one stable on the same day.

Hey everyone! My students are reminding me why I love teaching.
Lessons are available on Saturdays and Sundays and sometimes during the week!
My lessons are ideal for beginners or those wanting to gain confidence with horses on the ground before riding.

I'm on moringa tree guard duty. This paddock is less established than the other little one that's resting.

We haven't done much in here except mow and plant a few trees so the weeds are living their best lives and there are enough rocks to build a bridge to Madagascar...probably ๐Ÿคก

Of all the horses, Cody is quite desperate to eat the moringa tree which is super interesting.

I have some big plans for this little paddock!
I have to plant grass, trees and an edible hedge and I have to remove the billions of rocks that I almost break my ankles on daily.

It's a lot of work for one person, so if you'd like to come and help out, just message me.

03/06/2023

Thank you so much to our lovely students who brought carrots and apples to their lesson or paid a little extra to spend on treats for the horses!

You guys are amazing, and we appreciate every little bit! โค๏ธ

Movement! It's so important for horses! They need to travel around 30km a day.

I used to ride that distance often as a teen and it would take me around 3 - 4 hours with a few trots and a canter thrown in.

Horses need their 10k steps ๐Ÿคฃ

Our little is just getting started and with only my two hands to build it, it's taking a while ๐Ÿ˜…
I believe that this is the best way to keep horses and I will keep working 24/7 to achieve it.

Someone told me I have big dreams and small pockets. I say where there's a will there's a way.
It gets tiring and I do burn out and need a break sometimes, but we just keep swimming! ๐Ÿ

22/04/2023

Our little stable is very much a work in progress, but I like the way it's going.

Work hard, but remember to take a break once in a while to just enjoy the process.

It's funny to me that sometimes people expect me to go out to eat, drink, and be merry with a few hours' notice... think of me as a single mom with 6 giant toddlers. I need at least a day to organise my life ๐Ÿคฃ

The giant toddlers had a good day today. Splashing in the pond, rolling in the old muck heap and trying to eat my poor tree.
What makes horses happy is sometimes far from our idea of a happy horse. Being clean is one of those things.

24/01/2023

Someone broke the paddock fence and rolled in the muck heap...

Bean has an innocent face ๐Ÿ˜‡
Honestly, jumping fences is more his style so I think Bas was the fence destroyer.

Photos from New Hope Stables's post 22/10/2022

Love a good hack.

Off the track thoroughbreds tend to have a bad reputation for being wildly spooky and full of beans, but these two are such chill dudes.

Bas and Shangy have been mooching around the farmlands surrounding the stables and helping us de-stress and explore.

Had to have a snack break of course.

We might have to make our way towards the sea at some point ๐Ÿ‘€
No beaches near the stables, but still probably an interesting hack.

Can't wait for the rains to start, but really not looking forward to the humid tropical summer ๐Ÿ”ฅ

What is Transeva Therapy?

The Winks Greene Transeva is a faradic therapy machine that uses an electric current to stimulate muscular contraction.
A trained practitioner applies an understanding of anatomy and biomechanics, targeting specific muscle groups to correct and improve nerve function.
It can be used on dogs, horses, larger animals and even people.
From top athletes such as racehorses and competition horses to retired horses living out their old age, the Transeva can be used to improve performance and general quality of life.
The focus and intensity of treatments will be different for each individual.

If you are interested in booking a treatment, contact Rachelle on WhatsApp 57475205

We're hiring!

We are looking for a part time helper, 2 mornings per week, to do stable chores and property maintenance.

We are based in Riviere du Rempart, near Panchvati.

Message for more information.

New project underway!

And I think it's about time to retire my poor wheelbarrow ๐Ÿ˜… She had a name, but I can't remember what it was...Daisy or something? She's done a good 2 years ๐Ÿคฃ

When I was shoving the rocks under the sides of the tyre I was reminded of the time we had a Mozambican spitting cobra in our outdoor shower on the farm in Zim. I'm just glad that the only snakes we have in Mauritius are non-venomous and teeny tiny. Cute as a button really.

A few people will know that the location of this pedestal has moved several times. I'm indecisive like that. ๐Ÿ‘

Hang in there! You got this.

20/04/2022

I can't believe it's been 22 years since this crazy pony came into our lives.

I can't imagine life without him โค

We've been through a lot together and he's done everything from competing in dressage, doing liberty and trick training performances to long distance rides, herding cattle and messing around with polocrosse.

Never a novice ride, this kid taught me to put aside personal goals (like competing in dressage) and do what was best for the horse.

Hopefully he will be with us for many more years.

Trinity having a stroll around to check on my work.

He is usually my timekeeper and comes to get me when he thinks I've had enough playing with sand for the day.

Photos from New Hope Stables's post 25/03/2022

A thing has happened!

This is a life changing sort of thing and we are immensely grateful.

A kind person has donated 50 tonnes of sand for our arena. This will cover about a third of it and give us a place to work as we save up for the rest of the arena.

The first load of sand arrived yesterday afternoon and the horses were very excited.

This means we will be able to rehab our older horses and improve their quality of life.

It also means we will be able to offer lessons again soon despite the weather and just in time for winter.

More exciting things are coming soon as we continue to work hard at improving our horses lives.

We are a tiny business trying to get started and this is an amazing step forward in our journey.
