🔮A study of untrained individuals ingesting both EAA with liquid carbohydrates trended toward attenuation of muscle protein breakdown. Other studies show a kickstarting of protein synthesis with similar protocols with the contributor likely being leucine (an amino acid in EAA), as well as a component of serum insulin and glucose spikes.
🔮The protocol is effective in limiting excessive protein breakdown. Despite popular belief the goal of training IS NOT breaking down tissue. While tissue breakdown is a product of training, excessive breakdown limits recovery, can lead to overtraining and suppressed gains. The goal is some breakdown with a high stimulus to rebuild. This is why excessive soreness is NEVER ideal nor is it a sign of a “good workout”. Simply it’s a sign of overtraining and less effective workout.
🔮The decrease in stress hormones such as cortisol has an anti catabolic effect that seems to control excessive breakdown.
🔮The kickstart of anabolism means that the rebuilding process starts during the workout and not after.
❓What does this mean in layman’s terms?
✅Less muscle breakdown
✅More time building muscle
✅More effective muscle building stimulus
🔮A similar study showed over 12 weeks, untrained individuals saw as much as twice the muscle built compared to the placebo.
