Maldivian Thalassaemia Society has officially handed over 100 thalaset boxes (2400 thalaset needles) to Maldivian Blood Services today.

We procured these from a fund received by a generous donor to donate thalaset to our thalassaemia patients. We will be distributing these with the help of MBS to those patients who registered for the thalasets within the given time-frame.

World Sickle Cell Day 2024:

As we commemorate World Sickle Cell Day 2024, let us reflect on the fact that those affected by Sickle Cell disease are not rare in Maldives, and there are pockets in Maldives where prevalence of sickle carriers and sickle disease is high.

This year's theme "Hope through progress - Avancing Sickle Cell Care" is a call for equal and advance treatment for all affected so that they could lead a quality life. It's also a strong reminder to break the silence, barriers and stigma around Sickle Cell among the healthcare professionals, local community and among patients and families affected.

Maldivian Thalassaemia Society’s 30 years of service and commitment to ensuring a quality of life for our patients was recognized nationally by the Maldivian Government on International Thalassaemia Day 2024. This award is the dedication of the many parents since the beginning and later as our patients grew, that of many patients as well our members and volunteers to further the NGO and work tirelessly for the cause of thalassaemia, as advocates and as the voices of the thalassaemia community.

As an NGO which began as a support network for parents when our now eldest patients were just children, the NGO has come a long way since then. Through thick and thin, their exemplary work and contributions through the three decades shined at various points of the organization’s years.

We would like to use this opportunity to especially mention our patients, parents and volunteers who has been with us through all the challenges continuously, unwavering in their efforts throughout the years in various roles and capacities as EXCO, general members and volunteers, some of them serving MTS non-stop for over 20 years.
