The biggest poetry event in the country is happening again on 30 July in Blantyre! Bigger and better! You can't afford to miss this one!

DEFT POETRY FESTIVAL 2022 Do not forget; The Deft Poetry Festival is divided into 2 categories/sections; 1. SCHOOLS CONTEST (3hrs) We believe after we are gone, a new generation of writers and poets must rise and take the mantle. But are we doing enough to groom them and grow their talent? Hence the Schools Contest; • In this category, schools compete in speech and poetry recitals through their representatives •Students are at liberty to write and recite on the Festival's theme or any other theme they're comfortable with •A panel of 3 judges score and rate the students based on content, delivery, confidence and creativity. •Best top 3 students are recognized and awarded accordingly •And the best primary and best secondary school win trophies which they stand to defend the following year •This Section is closed by a music headliner. Last year it was David Kalilani, guess who's coming this year! 2. MULTILINGUAL RECITALS (3hrs) The multilingual, multicultural and multigenerational celebration of poetry •Comes after the Schools Contest •Aimed at celebrating local languages hence poets recite in various languages spoken from Nsanje to Chitipa •Celebrates and promotes poetry and spoken word in Malawi hence veteran and upcoming poets sharing stage •Themed poetry for that year is shared. 'Adoption of Renewable Energy' is our theme this year •A music headliner closes this section as well. Last year it was Keturah, guess who's coming this year!
