CALL FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS Through the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority - MACRA, the Muuni Fund, in collaboration with The Universal Service Fund Mw, is requesting for Software Developer Proposals on the development of a digital platform.

The development of a digital platform for Biwi Triangle Light Industries Association is vital for the enhancement of business opportunities, and the creation of a tech-savvy trade community. Technology will bolster trade activities and improve the sustainability of business options for the association. In addition, technology will improve coordination, development of new services, propagation of promotions and integrate digital financial solutions for securing financial transactions.

The request for proposals runs until the 7th of November 2023. Opening of proposals shall take place in MACRA Boardroom (Area 13) on Wednesday, 8th November 2023 at 10:00 hours and developers’ representatives and the general public who wish to attend are most welcome.

Muuni Fund team has finalized its implementation framework meetings with Directors of Planning and Development (DPDs), Management Information System Officers(MISOs), Monitoring & Evaluation Officers (M&Es), and Muuni Fund Desk Officers from councils in the Central and Southern Regions.

The framework meetings aimed to align DPDs, M&Es, MISOs, and Muuni Fund Desk Officers on the governance and operations of the fund, and the roles each will play to ensure that the Fund succeeds.

Muuni Fund is an ICT research and innovation fund which is being implemented through District Councils to incubate local research and innovation across Malawi. So far, District councils have submitted their intervention/problem areas for researchers and innovators to provide solutions for.

The Fund has been launched by Malawi Regulatory Communications Authority to provide seed moeny to researchers and innovators and to provide a sustainable environment that fosters research and innovation for local solutions in Malawi.

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has today launched an ICT research and innovation fund called the Muuni Fund at BICC.

The launch event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with the presence of District Assemblies, District Commissioners, and District CEOs, who showcased their innovative ideas.

Each district presented their unique pavilions, displaying the exceptional projects they submitted to the Muuni Fund for support.

The fund's primary objective is to provide seed money for research and innovation endeavors initiated by talented individuals across Malawi, facilitated through their respective District Councils.

The Minister of Information and Digitalization Hon. Moses Kalongashawa Kunkuyu presided over the launch.

THE MUUNI FUND ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

This morning, the Muuni fund held an Advisory Committee meeting to ensure that the Fund is implemented and operationalised in a set governance structure. This Advisory Committee consists of: the Ministry of Information and Digitization (MoID), Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture (MoLGUC), Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Registrar General (RG), National Commission of Science and Technology (NCST), National Planning Commission (NPC), Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA), AIRTEL, Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), Bankers Association of Malawi (BAM) and TEVETA.

This Advisory Committee will provide governance of the fund as mandated by Section 27 of the Communications Act which allows MACRA to establish a consultative or advisory fora in the communications sector to assist the Authority with discharging its functions.

The role of this Advisory Committee is to oversee the overall implementation of the fund through the provision of strategic guidance.

The Muuni Fund is an ICT research and innovative fund which is being implemented through District Councils to incubate local research and innovation across Malawi. The Fund’s main purpose is to provide a sustainable environment that fosters research and innovation for local solutions.

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority Director General Daud Suleman stressed the need for collaboration and coherence in the Malawian research and innovation ecosystem. Further the team leader for the Muuni fund Miss Wezi Salima emphasized that this Advisory committee will also serve as a platform for MACRA and all key stakeholders to share information on ongoing and planned activities.
