DPP STATEMENT: DO NOT KILL THE FUTURE OF MALAWI. LET THE STUDENTS SIT FOR THE EXAMINATION FOR FREE.

The late President John Pombe Magufuli remains one of my all time favorite presidents in Africa. He certainly wasn't a saint by any long shot, but I loved him for his resolve to see his people break free of the shackles of donor dependence and ultimately, poverty.

In 2016, USA withdrew its $472 million aid from Tanzania 🇹🇿 thinking that Magufuli would get on his knees and beg, but he said this instead:

"We need to stand on our own, if you are a farmer, you need to farm hard, if you are a fisherman, fish hard or if you are employed anywhere then work hard so that Tanzania (and) Tanzanians can get rid of donor dependence.”

The stats that he left at his demise were impressive. For the first time in the history of most African countries all pensions were fully paid up, in short no retiree went for over six months without receiving their full belefits.

Further, the government became debt free. Suppliers are paid on time and even corruption was "harshly" dealt with, taxes were all paid up and unprecedented infrastructure development was seen including an express train from the commercial capital Dar-es-Salaam to Dodoma, the administrative capital!

What a legacy.

When Magufuli passed on, virtually the entire country came to a standstill to honor this great son of the soil!

May we always remember his legacy and resolve!

Former president Joyce Banda has challenged girls in the country to live a life of purpose to succeed in life.

She made the call today at her residence at Domasi in Zomba when she symbolically presented a K25 million cheque for school fees to girls that are under the Joyce Banda Foundation bursary.

Banda stated that visionary life gives direction to people to make their goals and purpose become a reality.

"Once you understand your vision, your lives will become simpler and more meaningful to the society," she said.

Banda further challenged the girls to be like the eagle which is characterised with powerful vision, fearless and tenacious to achieve its goals.

"Choose friends carefully. Don't mix with anyone and anyhow because bad company corrupts good character," she said.
