President Lazarus Chakwera is tomorrow expected to launch a book titled Religion and Politics authored by his son Nick Chakwera.
This is contained in a presidential public program signed by Colleen Zamba, Secretary to the President and Cabinet.
The launch is scheduled to take place at Kigali Event, in the Capital Lilongwe from 13:00hrs.

Earlier today, His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, and the First Lady, Madame Monica Chakwera, called on Right Honourable John Zenus Ungapake Tembo, Former President of Malawi Congress Party and Former Leader of Opposition, at his home in Lilongwe to wish him well as he approaches his 90th birthday this coming week. The President was delighted to find Mr. Tembo in good spirits.

THE PRESIDENT'S DAY
President Chakwera is once again spending his day attending to economic matters by holding discussions with various international partners. His first meeting was with Mr. Thomas Ă–stros, Vice President of the European Investment Bank, which is providing 98 billion kwacha for the rehabilitation of the M1 road. Mr. Ă–stros was accompanied by a delagation that included Mr. Rune Skinnebach, EU Ambassador to Malawi.
The President's second engagement was with Mr. Mohamed Atef, Vice President of Elsewedy Electric, accompanied by Ms. Heba Samir, Country Director for Elsewedy, from which His Excellency secured a 1 billion dollar investment MOU on the sidelines of the Intra-African Trade Fair several months ago, targeting various projects in several sectors, including the energy sector. Today's meeting with the President was to give him an update on the progress being made towards the implementation of the projects in the coming year.
This afternoon, the President will hold virtual bilateral talks with Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), regarding the 50 million dollar facility the President's Administration has successfully secured from BADEA for the regularization of the fuel supply shortage that hit parts of the country recently. After this engagement, His Excellency will finalize his preparations for the Cabinet meeting he has called for at the close of business today, to consolidate and track other measures being leveraged for improving the economy.

For Secondary teachers, DPP last recruited a sizable number in 2014/15, only 789. In 2017 they recruited 400 Secondary School Teachers. From 2017 to 2021 no recruitment of Secondary School Teachers took place. In three years DPP recruited 1189 teachers ONLY.

Additionally, 2162 Primary Teachers and 2823 Secondary School Teachers have been promoted to different grades since MCP and Chakwera took over the government affairs.

The Youth and Sports Minister Honourable Chimwendo Richard William Banda participated in the 42.19 kilometers marathon this morning. The National Sports Council of Malawi has organised the event in conjuction with its stakeholders.
The marathon is currently under way in Blantyre.

This morning the President of Republic of Malawi His Excellency, Dr Lazarus Mccarthy Chakwera, inspected a house that Malawi government has renovated for Maseko Ngoni Chief, Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V.
The self-contained and four-bedroomed house has been renovated as part of government commitment that put the warfare of chiefs at heart.
The house is at Lizulu, the headquarters of the Inkosi.
After the inspection, President Dr Chakwera proceeded to attend Mhlangano wa Maseko cultural day and Gomani V 10th anniversary celebration at Nkolimbo in Ntcheu District.
His Excellency the President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and The First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera accompanied by Ngwenyama Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani V, arriving at Ngwenyama, Lizulu where His Excellency stopped by to appreciate the residence that was originally constructed for the Inkosi by His Excellency, the late Dr Hastings, Kamuzu Banda.
The residence has undergone rehabilitation following a directive from the President to the Ministry of Local Government to address the disrepair that the building was under.
President Chakwera will be proceeding to Chikuse Ground in Ntcheu District to attend the Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni Cultural Festival.
Government rebukes illegal job agencies for human trafficking
Lilongwe, September 2: Minister of Homeland Security, Jean Sendeza and Minister of Labour, Vera Kamtukule have rebuked illegal recruitment agencies that are leading to human trafficking and labour migration which have gone rampant in the country.
Speaking in Lilongwe on Friday at a press briefing held under the theme "Trapped in Oman," Sendeza said many Malawians seeking employment in foreign nations are working under unfavourable and unfair working conditions forcing them to cry out for help from the government.
“Issues to do with Trafficking in Persons are increasing due to unregistered agencies in the country from which a lot of cases are already in the courts. Most people working outside the country are facing a lot of challenges after being cheated that they will find job opportunities and yet it is modern slavery," she said.
She, therefore, encouraged all Malawians to report any acts of trafficking in persons to the nearest police in their localities.
Sendeza also highlighted that investigations are underway to avail all those involved in the business that is rendering many to dire situations.
“My office has been informed that one of the police officers at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) who was involved in the clearing processes has been arrested together with a police officer from Area 30 and a health officer from Kamuzu Central Hospital," Sendeza said.
Meanwhile, seven cases have been concluded by the courts and 71 other cases are still under scrutiny.
On her part, Minister of Labour, Vera Kamtukule highlighted that most of the current job agencies sending people abroad are illegal and the ministry is not aware of them.
“Our recent problem is with those that went to Oman. We are unable to assist them because we are being denied entry into the country and we do not have any bilateral or international agreements with them. However, we are using our embassy in Kuwait to find out
The Malawi Police Service has new top leadership in place, following the promotion of some six-Deputy Commissioners of Police- DCPs and two Commissioners to the next rank.
An internal communique this publication has seen, the Inspector General of Police Merlyne Yolamu says, she will now be deputized by Happy Kang’oma Mkandawire, responsible for Administration and Caspper Boswell Chalera to man Operations.
Legal practitioner, Babra Mchenga Tsiga has also been promoted from DCP to Commissioner, to become the youngest female commissioner in the service. The promotions are effective 29 August, 2022.

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, is this morning presiding over the official launch of the Theological Society of Malawi at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Upon his arrival, the President was welcomed by Hon Agness Nyalonje, Minister of Education, Hon. Michael Usi, and Rev. Dr. Felix Nyika, Chaiperson of the Executive Committee.
Among other activities, the launch will have statements from different stakeholders, brief presentation of Research papers, one of which is Contextual Biblical Study: Constructing Interpretations that have Decolonizing Effects, by Rev. Dr. Takuze Chitsulo, and also launching of the book Decolonizing the Theological Curriculum in an Online Age.”

We had a fruitful day today at BICC where we held a National Smposium for Adolecemntts Girls and Young Women (AGYW). We have understood how much the country is doing and the gaps we have in order for us to develop our young girls and women in this country. As government, we have committed ourselves to empower young women and girls because they are a group which is so critical in the development of this country.
My Ministry will ensure that we stick to His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera's vision to improve young people's lives in the spirit of not leaving anybody behind. We will prosper together with young people.
Thanks so much my fellow Cabinet Ministers (Honourable Khumbize Chiponda Kandodo, Honourable Patricia Kaliati, Honourable Vera Kamtukule and Hounarable Agness Nyalonje for joining me in the panel discussion we had to talk about issues affecting young women and girls.
