The damage cyclone Freddy has caused has been beyond comprehension with so many lives lost and thousands of households displaced. In light of this, together with our partner CICOD, through funds from Christian Aid amounting to 50,000 pounds, we are on the ground in Chikwawa camps as responders.

For Ana Ajida from Sumani Village, Balaka; the response to that question is actually yes! Ana runs a business of weaving and selling mats together with her husband. This was made possible for her by the no interest loan of MK50,000 she took as a beneficiary of the Malonda project being implemented by Alliance Development African Foundation and Nandolo Association of Malawi who are the implementing partners for Christian Aid Malawi.

By taking the no interest loan, it has greatly improved her life as she is now able to feed her family without struggle, the business she runs with her husband has been doing considerably well and it has strengthened their marriage even more as they are financially stable and do things planning and businesses. Her vision is to be able to build a bigger house than the one that currently shelters her, and her family and she has already started purchasing building materials for that to achieve that goal.

Christian Aid through its implementing partners, Alliance Development African Foundation and Nandolo Farmers Association of Malawi have been carrying out a Malonda project which has run from 2019 to 2022 with the intent of improving the lives of pigeon pea farmers by creating a market a linkage with more favorable prices for them and to further position them in a place where they can sustain themselves through nandolo business and other profit-making businesses.
