"It's not just the physical contact we make with other people that produces unexpected reverberations in our psyches. How our physical body interacts with the world is fundamentally connected to our thinking. Our physical selves shape our psychological selves, known as embodied cognition."

As I inhaled burning sage and petroleum candles we were invited to close our eyes. I held my breath at first. Another meditation, women praying to their deities, clutching their crystals, hoping for illumination. I liked to peep one eye open to read their body language. Some with their heads bowed, with others arms open and foreheads tilted back receiving; a magnetic pull upward on their chest. We are usually invited to first be in the present moment, to feel the earth, feel our breath and each piece of our tired bodies. We then escape to a world where we are unchained. Where we can fly or float at will. Upon opening our eyes we are here. I inspect all the faces. They are looking for guidance, expectant of a miracle, a change within themselves. We sing, in unison asking the elements, our ancestors, and ourselves for strength and change.

I do not consider my ancestors to be friends with theirs. I wonder if those ancient ghosts embrace change more naturally than we do. I assume they are more at peace, but watch our neverending cycle with frustration. We turn to each element, asking for qualities we feel we lack. I have found that we ask for the same things we have within us, but, which others cannot see. FIRE, transformation, AIR communication, WATER clarity, and EARTH stability. We are bound by the other. The public perception, the male perception, the female perception.

We start our therapy. We talk in general terms about why we are here. Why do we need guidance? Why? Because we have little control over our own lives. We give, and give and give ourselves while they ignore us. We learn that we are wrong, they are right. We learn our feelings don't matter. We learn the role of the women is fixed, chained, accomodating. We learn that men are too. Fixed, but uniformed and controlling providers. We learn to try harder. We learn these things but we know they are incorrect. We know we need deities and gods. We know they listen for we are gods. And so, when the gods speak we hear ourselves.

This stellar nursery has been known to many different cultures throughout human history. Believed to be the cosmic fire of creation by the Maya of Mesoamerica, in Greek mythology as the hunter who was placed in the sky as a punishment for his arrogance and the Egyptian God Osiris who was put back together after being chopped into 14 pieces by his brother. M42 blazes brightly in the constellation Orion. Popularly called the Orion Nebula, it is the closest large star-forming region to Earth and because of its brightness and prominent location just below Orion’s belt, M42 can be spotted with the naked eye. It is best observed during mid January until mid Febuary.
