Day 3 together!
We went to school and the kids were eagerly waiting in their classrooms for our arrival. Stepping into the classrooms the kids are always shy at first, but it doesn’t take long for them to warm up to us, giving us millions of hugs at the end of the day. Today we worked on building shapes with clay (circles, squares, triangles) and reading skills. In the afternoon we had our usual tutoring classes focusing mainly on multiplication rules such as the zero rule and cross multiplying. We meet with the kids at 5:30 in the plaza to let them paint and draw. The kids came really enthusiastic knowing they were painting today.

On our second day together, we went back to the kindergarten school and switched classes like we do everyday. The kids were excited to see new faces, happy to share all their stories with us. Happy to have an extra set of hands, we got an incredibly warm welcome from the teacher!

Though many of them know their name, it is still difficult for them to write and recognize them, so through a copying and matching game we helped them get more comfortable in that subject. During their recess, the kids wanted to play numerous different games such as “la serpiente” a local school game that we learned during our time here. In the afternoon we held our daily tutoring classes for the kids. The kids came eager to learn and asked us to help them with their homework they had due for tomorrow! As usual we went to the plaza of the village for the kids to engage into some physical activities such as “Match” another local game similar to tag!

Tercer día ✅

Hoy, en Teabo, fue un día muy caloroso pero agradable y productivo. Por la mañana fui a la escuela y pasé el día con los niños de primer grado en el kinder. Aprendimos sobre la importancia de comer equilibrado, como las frutas y vegetales, especialmente las zanahorias, que son verduras que nos ayudan a mejorar la visión. Por la tarde, como ya es costumbre, acudieron varios niños a las clases de asesorías donde les ayudé con sus tareas. El día terminó en la plaza grande donde jugamos con los aros Hula-Hula y la pelota de fútbol. Otro día que pasó volando, ocupada con niños tan maravillosos.

It is days like yesterday, that remind us that our work is not only about making the best in the world, that’s our excuse, we are part of this greater than life project, that will prevail, beyond our everyday work.
Through Cielo Foundation, we’ve been part of this region for the last 20 years and we contribute with our grain of salt to the development of our communities, especially the ones that need it the most.

Today we’re welcoming Marta from 🇺🇸 | 🇪🇸 that shows us that there is no age, or barriers when it comes to wanting to help; she’s only 17 years old and has chosen to spend her summer helping the people of Teabo rather than staying home in Washington DC. We want to say thank you .verdjo

Días como ayer nos damos cuenta que producir la mejor hamaca del mundo es solo el pretexto para pertenecer a este proyecto de vida que es mucho mas grande que nosotros, a través de Fundación Cielo, hemos sido parte de esta región de manera permanente por los últimos 20 años y ponemos nuestro grano de arena para contribuir con el desarrollo de nuestras comunidades, en especial de las que menos tienen. Cuando ustedes nos compran una hamaca todo tiene sentido!
Hoy le damos la bienvenida a Marta de 🇺🇸 | 🇪🇸 que nos demuestra que no hay edad, ni barreras cuando se quiere ayudar y a sus 17 años prefiere pasar su Verano ayudando y conviviendo con la gente de Teabo a quedarse en su casa de Washington DC, lo cual la comunidad le agradece infinitamente.

COVID-19 and the physical restrictions that it has brought, have not stopped us from doing good. We have redshifted our efforts and for the time being, mainly supporting our CIELO Scholars. We are thrilled with the results. We have dedicated time and resources to individually train each of our scholars and make sure they are best prepared to join the work force upon graduation.
