Cali Roots: The Mexico Sessions

Last year we were excited to partner with Pollen, who produces destination events, and offer a new experience to Cali Roots fans. Because the Baja Sessions was well received last fall, we continued to work with Pollen to bring the Mexico Sessions in 2022 under the Cali Roots name.

It has become increasingly evident recently that Pollen’s poor business practices do not meet our standards and that we can no longer partner with them. We are therefore heartbroken to announce that due to Pollen’s negligence, lack of transparency and unethical practices, that we have no choice but to cancel the Mexico Sessions 2022.

Unfortunately, Pollen is in complete control of all ticketing. We have no access nor ability to process refunds to the Mexico Sessions. We encourage all ticket holders to immediately reach out and see if they’re able to file a claim with their credit card company.

This is not the experience we want for our Cali Roots fans and we will work hard to continue to uphold the level of trust we have built with you over the past thirteen years. In an effort to make amends, we would like to offer anyone who purchased a package to Mexico a 4-day ticket to Cali Roots in May 2023. Please email your proof of purchase from Pollen to [email protected] to start this process.

The Movement has been winning the hearts and minds of alternative-reggae fans since their inception in Columbia, SC in 2003. Drawing inspiration from Sublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid and John Brown’s Body, they’ve come to be known as musical shapeshifters with a foundation of heavy drum and bass. Today the band consists of founding member, lead vocalist, and guitarist Joshua Swain, bassist Jason Schmidt, drummer Gary Jackson, and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Matt Goodwin. Their sixth studio album, Ways Of The World, will be released on June 7, 2019, as the highly anticipated followup to 2016’s Golden.

Kolohe Kai has consistently been one of the most popular artists in Pacific Island Reggae music for over a decade. The project of singer/songwriter Roman De Peralta, born and raised on the island of Oahu, has produced 10 Island Reggae hits since signing a record deal at age 17. His sound infuses the localism of ukulele music with rhythms of roots reggae, and more recently pop and r&b—pushing Kolohe Kai into an elevated tier of Island Reggae.

At first he rejected the temptation to go into the music industry to make it really big. He just wanted to surf and live a simple life. But after realizing that he could be a positive influence through his music, he decided to change his mind.
