NSULA - Fine + Graphic Arts is proud to invite you to the Lithographic Prints exhibition, by Yumali Misleyda Torres Leon, a young Mexican lithographer, from the printmaking workshop La Ceiba Gráfica in Veracruz Mexico.
Yumali is finishing a summer workshop at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque NM. She will also be teaching an intensive lithography workshop to printmaking students of art. This workshop is supported by the Northwestern State University Alumni Association and Foundation in collaboration with NSU CAPA. The workshop* will be hosted in the printmaking classroom of NSULA (room 104), this workshop will be assisted by the Mexican professor of art, Edgar Cano-Lopez.
(*limited capacity)
Yumali Torres was born in Xalapa in 1997. She graduated in Visual Arts from the Art Faculty at the Universidad Veracruzana. Her training as a visual artist focused on graphic arts namely: lithography, eco-printing, and dyeing with natural pigments. Thus, these are her main forms of expression. She has collaborated with the Printmaking Workshop at Universidad Veracruzana, the Experimental Printmaking Workshop, and she is currently the head of the Lithography Workshop at La Ceiba Gráfica.
"Yumali presents a variety of prints from her recent production—including pieces edited in the Tamarind Institute—with which she makes us participate in her experiences, challenges, and conflicts—as well as her dreams and visions. Torres has grown widely in the discipline as it is easy to see that she does not fear borders. In her work we see a willingness to change, experiment, and risk; She wields the primary tools which earn her the distinction of an emerging artist with purpose". (Edgar Cano)

Last night I felt excited and thankful. Yesterday was the reception of the 61st Juried Exhibition of the Masur Museum in Monroe Louisiana. Surprised, I realized that my painting was the best in show, just I have to say thanks to all the artists to make possible this incredible gallery and event, of course to the Art Curator, the Museum director and the museographer and all the Masur Museum's team, and all the people who did appreciate the exhibition. Also I felt overwhelmed, because this is the third consecutive juried exhibition which I had participated, coming from Manifesto Gallery in Cincinnati OH, Baton Rouge Gallery, in Baton Rouge LA, and Masur Museum also in Louisiana, in those shows, the curators have being such of generous with my arts and they did recognize my artwork in a large standard, which I deeply appreciate.

Talk about black and white, drawing and lithography from past years. One of my favorites sensations is the challenge which comes from a white paper or a new marble stone. Probably mostly of the times the results doesn’t are the most important but at least something new is possible to see.
I'm so honored to be the part of The 2023 PAINTED BIENNIAL exhibition, (which will close Friday, October 27), my artwork was displayed among such incredible artists at the Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, but in addition of that to my surprise, my painting Mud Fantasy 2022 was distinguished as the winner of this show. I feel thrilled and grateful with all the jurors and all the people involved in this fantastic exhibition. Gracias

EDGAR CANO Artista Plástico
Edgar Cano (Isla, 1977)
