// Darkness Poomba // by Modern Table Dance Company (Korea) // 2018 //
“Poomba” which is known for the melody as a changed subject from its origin. Filled with emotions of anger, sorrow, and grief, they scorned with contempt through the expression of sighs and dark sounds. The fear of being defeated in the darkness would be continuously portrayed by the dancers as they dance and sing to a movement similar to “Dionysus.” This relates to ‘한(han)’ which is defined as deep resentment and sorrow with expression in the Korean culture.
Darkness Poomba possesses a unique Asian characteristic with live sounds and male dancers dancing in dynamic curves. Also, featuring Pansori, a Korean traditional musical storytelling in the performance.

// Romeo and Juliet //
From the first intimate blush to the heartbreaking finale, Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, is a story for all ages. It’s a tale of a chance meeting, love at first sight, the passion of teenagers, and old family feuds. Romeo and Juliet contains: a vivacious sword, the fight and three poignant pas de deux, the lovers’ first encounters, the famous balcony scene. In the final tragedy, Romeo dances desperately with the lifeless Juliet.
Beautiful and intimate, Romeo and Juliet is choreographed by the Artistic Director of DPAC Dance Company, Wong Jyh Shyong (JS), who breathes new life into one of the Bard’s classic love stories. It features a talented cast, including Huang Weikai (currently a student of University of Taipei - Dance Department) as Romeo, Jessica Ng (the first prize winner of the 19th Solo Classical Ballet Competition in 2016 and the 1st runner-up of the Dance Prix Indonesia 2016 - Ballet Solo Pre-Senior) as Juliet and 40 students from Malaysia’s Dance Space Academy. Romeo and Juliet, a familiar tale of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers with heart-breaking beauty, is the sixth full-length ballet performance of Dance Space after the great success of Giselle in 2015.
// N/2 //
“It all started back in 2004, when we first dance together, if not NOW… when will it be?”
is the much-anticipated double bills dance performance by James Kan and Lu who are no longer unfamiliar for their respective full-length solo dance performance.
James and Lu are now seeking for the new perspective under the new-norms as handling the both choreography and performer. The duos are driven to make the double bills as they first started dancing together 17 years ago.

Hong Kong choreographer, Yuri Ng, known for his quirky ingenuity, was awarded the Prix d’Auteur at the Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis (Bagnolet) in France in 1998 for his work "Boy Story". This prestigious work, premièred in Hong Kong back in 1996, is a classic which marks a glorious chapter in the history of Hong Kong dance. Ingeniously choreographed for six male dancers, it explores the anxiety towards self-positioning and identity. It portrays the boys’ romantic yet persistent pursuit of dreams in the city through body language.
Nineteen years later, in 2015, Ong Yong Lock (王荣禄), a dancer in the première of "Boy Story" and currently, the Artistic Director of Unlock Dancing Plaza, reunited with the Malaysia cast comprising of performers such as Yap Choong Boon (葉忠文), Jay Jen Loo (劉傑仁), Goh Boon Ann (吳文安); Wong Thien Pau (黃天寶) from the 1998 version, and newcomer, Chou Shu-yi (周書毅) from Taiwan to revive the classic. Boy Story was restaged at the Theatre, Sheung Wan Civic Centre (Hong Kong) in 2015 and the Main Theater, Cloud Gate Theater (Taiwan) in 2016.
