The oldest cafe in Penang - Macallum Connoisseurs is come back ! We are honoured to announced that we was appointed for their new cafe renovation at Burma Road

The main element of the design concept is the separating wall element we created to divide the production area from the public coffee area. The design process has been a balancing act where we wanted something that would be both transparent and opaque, functional and aesthetic, subtle and yet strong. The grid storage compartment made by the oak and rattan, made the serving counter from a traditional back bar such as boilers, coffee machine, grinders and so on, these we’re all neatly fitted within the repeating pattern of the grid.

Inspired by the raw, industrial past, the colors gravitate towards neutral shades, with grays, whites, and blacks taking center stage. Bursts of bold colors like deep reds are common, usually in accessories or statement furniture.

The finishes retain a sense of authenticity. Exposed brick might be left untouched, while metals could be either polished for a sleek look or left raw. Often reclaimed wood is sometimes stained but frequently retains its original, weathered appearance.
