While engaging in "imaginative play", children use their imagination to create scenarios, roles, and worlds. This type of play can include activities like pretending to be a pirate 🏴‍☠️, a superhero 🦸🏻‍♀️, playing house 🏠, or setting up a pretend store 🏪. Imaginative play allows children to use their creativity freely, without the constraints of reality. They can explore new ideas💡, invent stories, and create unique worlds, which can lay the groundwork for innovation and creative thinking in their later years 👩🏻‍🎓👨🏻‍🎓🌟

As part of our Weather theme, we also teach our 3 year olds about the water cycle 🌊 as it's a great way to introduce them to fundamental scientific concepts. They learn about the importance of water 💦, the role of the Sun☀️as well as developing an early awareness of the environment and conservation 🌏. It is also a great way to introduce new vocabulary such as evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. Using simple terms, such as "water goes up," "clouds form," and "rain falls down," can help make these concepts more understandable🤓

📚”What's the point of storytelling with very young children? Do they even understand it?"

We can't stress enough the importance of storytelling from a very young age. It helps with language and cognitive development, strengthens the connection with caregivers and helps improve their listening and attention skills. Our 1 year old group are mostly pre-verbal, yet their faces light up with glee during story time, especially when the teacher is able to add in her own intonations, voices and facial expressions as she narrates the story 🌟👩🏻‍🏫

More fine motor skills practice 👋 👋, this time, working on hand-eye coordination by trying to cut in a straight line with a pair of scissors ✂️

✏️The ideal age to start introducing handwriting practice to children is typically around 4 to 5 years old. At this age, children often begin to develop the fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination needed for writing. At Purple Dragon, our 3-year-old age group get a head start on writing practice on top of other activities that develop fine motor skills, such as playing with playdough, threading beads, and using tongs or tweezers. Activities like drawing, colouring, and scribbling with crayons all help to build hand strength, coordination and the correct pencil grip 🖍🎨✏️✏️

Every child develops at their own pace, so it's essential to be patient and make handwriting practice a positive and enjoyable experience 🌟

In these early years, each birthday is a special milestone worth celebrating! 🌟 Each year marks incredible growth, new skills, and cherished memories for our little ones. From learning to share to mastering the ABCs, these achievements are the building blocks of their bright futures. 📚🧩

🌞✨ Our children have been enjoying a range of newly implemented and enriching outdoor activities. 💦 Outdoor play is more than just fun, it is essential for children’s overall health and in achieving crucial development milestones.

One little known benefit, especially relevant to us Asians, is improved eyesight - studies have shown that spending time outdoors can reduce the risk of developing myopia (near-sightedness) in children 🤓. Sunlight and looking at objects at varying distances help keep their eyes healthy. We are committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience for your children, and incorporating outdoor activities is a vital part of that mission but rest assured, we avoid the hottest parts of the day 😅😉

There are so many benefits from learning a second language at an early age. Research shows that children with more than one language learn faster and easier, have better problem-solving skills and are highly creative. Children who learn a second language tend to display more empathy towards others, they are more receptive to new and different experiences, which makes them more open-minded and accepting of diversity. Thankfully in Malaysia, we are lucky to be exposed to multiple languages from an early age. At Purple Dragon, we aim to provide a multilingual language-learning environment that offers opportunities for the children to develop their language skills.
