The proboscis monkey or long-nosed monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is an arboreal Old World monkey with an unusually large nose, a reddish-brown skin color and a long tail. It is endemic to the southeast Asian island of Borneo and is found mostly in mangrove forests and on the coastal areas of the island.
Kota Kinabalu was also mentioned by the Huffington Post portal in the US in 2017 as among the eight locations in the world with the best sunset views. Others in the list include the West Lake at Hangzhou in China, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Nice in France.
โThe conservation of mangroves is important for both forests and seas. Mangroves provide an ideal breeding ground for many aquatic species. Mangrove forests also provide habitat for many species of insect and bird. They hold soil in place and act as a buffer zone that protects the land from wind and wave damages. For local communities, mangrove forests provide resources in terms of food, medicine and wood.
