This is the story of Kalsom. She’s a stray cat that hangs around Restoran Mama/Hero Supermarket/DPO office (Taman Melawati). She has one kitten which we shall call Maymay. Both of them are always seen around this area until one day when she went missing on 13 October. Few days later we found her hiding under a lorry with a swollen lower jaw, and very scared. We took her to a nearby vet Melawati Urban Veterinary Clinic and the vet diagnosed her injury as a trauma to the lower jaw, possibly due to collision with motorcycle (that’s our assumption). Her injury is so serious that it requires a proper vet hospital to be able to perform surgery to fix her jaw and heal her.

Zati tried contacting the UPM veterinary services to see if Kalsom can get her treatment there but was told there’s currently a long queue. Seeing that Kalsom needed urgent attention, Zati tried other channels and found a clinic that can perform the surgery. This clinic is Animed Veterinary Center in Cheras, estimated cost to be RM978. The vet also recommended that we spay her and we agreed, seeing that there are a few male cats in this area.

In total we are looking for about RM1,000 in donation from the public to cover the costs of this operation and her previous boarding at another clinic (she couldn’t eat and had to be put on IV drip - the bill came to about RM300, will post actual bill amount)

We will stop the donation drive when we have reached the amount that we need to cover the costs.

In the interest of transparency and accountability, we will post donor name and amount (unless otherwise told not to) and full accounts of the money we will be spending on the operation and any other incidental costs.

Any surplus will be decided on buying cat food and/or covering future vet costs for this cat or other cats in this area if the need arises.

She’s scheduled to have her operation done today (26 Oct) at Animed Veterinary Center (see quotation for operation costs), as well as getting spayed too (cost not included in the quotation as vet asked us if we want to get her spayed as well, seeing that she’s a stray cat — we agreed it’s for the best).
