Talk So Kids Will Listen, Listen So Kids Will Talk
This page is our social marketing campaign as part of ePJJ students from UiTM Samarahan. Let's spread awareness on positive communication relationship!
Our campaign mainly focus on the effective communication between the parents and their children.
HOW TO REMOVE THE COMMUNICATION GAP ???
1. Pay your child the attention they deserve.
- Try to always be there for the child when they need you. If you are not there at such moments, it may interfere with your child's ability to develop properly. Be the first to let them know when anything is wrong. Try to participate in all of the child's interests.
2. Apologize after you've made a mistake.
- Children will learn the habit of accepting responsibility for their actions and showing regret whenever they are incorrect by witnessing adults feeling sorry and doing so in front of them.
3. Express an interest in what they have to say.
- When the kid wants to chat about anything, put your job aside. Pay attention to their ideas. Never interfere while someone is expressing their emotions. Make sure they are aware of your worries about them at all times. Always pay attention to your child's nonverbal and indirect cues.
4. Never argue
- However, never pressure someone to agree with you. Maintain your composure at all times and remember that children learn from their own experiences and errors. Encourage them to express themselves by any means. Try to become friends with them.
5. Take initiatives
- Always take initiatives to work with your children as it will enhance your relationship with them. Always try to have conversations one to one. Try to stay cool while talking to your child, even if it’s a difficult situation.
How do we keep our kids interested in the midst of daily chaos? How might we foster meaningful discourse? Here are some ideas to get you talking to your kids and developing a more conversational parenting style :
1) Exhibit Compassion
-We need to model the behaviour we want our children to follow. Nothing increases our approachability like a modest demeanour. It encourages free conversation and lowers our kids' barriers. Our kids will be inspired to open their hearts to us by witnessing our openness to be vulnerable and apologise when we're wrong.
2) Let Your Kids Inside
- Kids want for sincerity in our constantly changing world, especially at home. We may provide an example of sincerity by letting our children see the pleasure and anguish in our hearts and by asking them to pray with us. The ability to initiate a discussion and to change the course of one may both be found in sincerity.
3) Learn to Listen
- At the dinner table, parents can engage in conversational parenting. Make sure you set a good example for your child if you want them to be excellent listeners. Give them some time to speak. It's common for busy, preoccupied parents to ignore a chattering toddler, which is understandable sometimes. However, if you neglect your child all the time, it will come across that you don't value their opinions and don't care to listen to them.
Communication is the process of exchanging messages that involves two or more parties. It consists of one person relaying the message to another person who is receiving the message.
For young children, communication is crucial in many ways. Learning to speak is essential for children to engage with the people in their world and to have their needs met since it is one of the important developmental tasks in early life.
The key to good parenting is open communication with your child. Building your child's self-esteem requires effective two-way communication. While encouraging and praising your child can help them grow, listening to them will also help them feel loved and valuable.
Establishing open and transparent communication patterns with your child early on will help them develop strong communication skills.
