I was invited by a data centre cooling solution provider to present our CFD study at their company event in Bali, followed by my attendance at the Data Centre Dynamics (DCD) > Connect Asia Pacific event last week. It was so wonderful and enriching to meet old and new friends, and to learn about the business and technological trends for the data centre industry.

With utmost gratitude, long service awards were presented by our directors to our capable engineers for their 3 years, 5 years and 10 years of dedication and commitment before we went for a scrumptious Iftar meal on the 3 April 2024.

It is always exciting to play and learn. As we have been entrusted by our clients with performing multiple studies to look into air flow and cooling solutions for data centres and rack enclosures, acquiring and then opening a few 1U and 2U servers are great ways to bring CFD simulation closer to reality.

Our engineer carried out CSR work at Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple Penang (ISKCON) on 17th June 2023 to help study the functionality of one of their hanging hall speakers. One of the speaker drivers is suspected to be faulty, and a temple representative approached our engineer to help identify the defective driver using our Class 1 NTi Sound Level Meter (SLM). Our engineer used a 5.5 feet pole to place the SLM microphone as close as possible to the speakers to capture the emitted sound frequencies. The SLM clearly shows one of the speakers having a drop in high frequency noise indicative of faulty tweeter drivers. In the mid-frequencies, both speakers show excellent consistency in emitted noise.

13.05.2023. Xi'an 西安. Professor Dr Wen Zhang 张雯教授 shared with us her research work while Dr Chen Khin Fai took me to visit the Centre of Intelligent Acoustics and Immersive Communications, School of Marine Science and Technology, North Western Polytechnical University 西北工业大学 in Xi'an. They are at the forefront of research into acoustic signal processing coupled with machine learning and A.I.

Dr KC Tang had the opportunity to visit Soundbox in Guangzhou, China to understand the R&D, test and measurement facilities and their products. Soundbox is the largest provider of acoustic solutions in China and likely the world, and I am proud and honoured to meet their Chief Technical Officer, Dr Chen Khin Fai who is an acoustic expert from Malaysia bringing technical wealth and phenomenal growth to the company. MyCAE looks forward to working with Dr Chen in the near future.

Our engineers went into a new cleanroom to measure vibration levels of its floor slab that has a tight vibration limit. This exercise was performed during the commissioning phase of a new semiconductor production facility in Kulim, Kedah, to verify our vibration engineering for the building design and the floor PASSES the vibration requirement.

We are honoured to have Clive Ford, NAFEMS representative for ASEAN, and Dr.Kiran Bhagate, a NAFEMS PSE Assessor, joining us to speak on the path to becoming a NAFEMS certified Professional Simulation Engineer, covering NAFEMS, PSE framework, application, assessment process and passing the assessment.

Completed a 2-day Project Management course by PMI certified PMP and Agile guru, Ir Dr Mui Kai Yin. Thank you Dr Mui for the invaluable knowledge transfer and sharing of experience.

We had a fantastic time at our company retreat and team building in Langkawi over an extended weekend of 13 to 15 Aug 2022.

MyCAE extends our warmest welcome to Ms Vicky Ramalingam, Senior Manager (HoD) from Nexperia Malaysia, Mr Fan Haibo, the Senior Principal Engineer and Mr Zhou Zhou, Senior Engineer, both from Advanced Material Technology & Modelling group of Nexperia Hong Kong. We are honoured and humbled to receive them and discuss about the possible use of advanced engineering simulation to break new ground for the semiconductor industry.

We have acquired and tested 3 new seismic accelerometer from Wilcoxon with a sensitivity of 10,000mV/g to complement our current fleet of Monitran 1,000mV/g accelerometers. We are able to extend our micro-vibration measurement and assessment capability from VC-C (12.5 micrometer/second) and 'down' to VC-E (3 micrometer/second) or even VC-F, for advanced scientific lab or semiconductor production facilities.

We have added more passionate engineers to our team during the MCO period. We are pleased that by educating ourselves and continuously sharing our understanding with our clients and consultant partners we have witnessed a deepening awareness on micro vibration and air flow affecting the demanding production environment of advanced semiconductor facilities.

While velocities measured in micrometer/sec are generally used to grade the floor vibrations in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, it is not uncommon for vibration sensitive tools to have vibration requirements stated in terms of acceleration or displacement amplitude, or a combination of these two. A vibration tripartite chart with the general vibration curves printed is offered below for easy reference.
