Modest Miniatures
Modest Miniatures, the often random ramblings of amateur painter and occasional gamer.
Malstrain Tyramites.
Pyre and Flood done. Love that feeling when a box set is completed. One down.... many more to go!
Slann Starmaster Mage Priest for my son's Lizardmen army. My son built it but didn't want to paint it. I've had so much fun with this, much more interesting to paint than Bretonnians!
I may have gone a little crazy on the base, I love it though.
Something a little different. I was given this Book Nook on Father's day. Really very enjoyable to build with the exception of some elements of Chinglish in the instructions. Far cleaner than a lot off the MSF wargames scenery that you can buy.
Pyre and Flood. Finally got the Pyregheists and Idol of the Old Ones done. Just need to find time for the Ydrilan Riverblades now.
Won a Realm of Battle board a while back in a store raffle. Finally got round to painting it this week. The lava is done with fluorescent paint because I'm sure that magic lava would glow like this or something.
Praise to the Lady, a milestone has been reached! 2959 points worth of Brettonia mustered under my family coat of arms. Points total is without any magic items. Just 36 Men at Arms, 36 bowmen and (if it ever comes into stock) a GW Trebuchet to go and I'll need to think about a second WTOW army. My kids are building Lizardmen and Wood Elves ..... so maybe it'll be time to head back to the Undead where I started WFB back in the 1980s!
Army Battle Standard Bearer. I really dislike the sculpt of the banner, it's off square and so really hard to work with decals, yes I probably should free hand but I wanted to apply checks and that level of freehand is totally beyond my skillset!
In days of old, when Knights were bold and bog roll was not invented.
Ye'd take tufts of grass.
To wipe thy a**e.
So thy saddle was not stained.
I absolutely love the Pegasus Knights from Highland Miniatues and printed by Forgemaster Minis. They rather outshine their brethren from GW.
Grail Pilgrims with Reliquary, sculpted by Highland Miniatures and printed by Forgemaster Minis. Quite probably my favourite unit in my army so far (sorry Pegasus Knights).
I'm laid up with a couple of properly bashed ribs so decided to challenge myself to finish my 4th unit of horse mounted knights in a day. The idea was "the black knights". Sadly, at least in part to my army theme of my family coat of arms I only seem to have achieved slightly unfinished "Charge of the Bumblebee Brigade".....
... tis but a bee sting!
Third unit of mounted Knights finally finished. Helmets and shields are from Greenstuff world in an attempt to introduce a little variety across the army.
Adaptation Sororitas Novitiates. These had been trying to scale mount Gray of Shame for too long. They've highlighted my lack of recent painting practise in nothing else.
Trebuchet by Highland Miniatures and produced by Forgemaster Miniatures. Excellent sculpture, lovely clean casting/printing and actually available to buy..... unlike the GW version!
Lady Elisse Duchard; without doubt my favourite miniature of the whole range and super hard to do it justice, especially when my 8 year old daughter was determined to be involved (she did base colours and the last umpteen coats of attempting to get the colourshift effect to work on the horn when the fairy dust didn't "pop"). Oh and she also decided that there needed to be so many flowers on the base. Have to say, I've been pretty impressed with some of the accessories from Greenstuffworld.
Knights of the Realm on foot finally finished. Went for 2x10 because I couldn't decide between weapons options and who cares anyway, my miniatures never actually see a games table!
My six year old has finished the first units for his Lizardman army. Feeling very proud of him!
Finally finished the intro set plus a few extras!
Second unit of Men at Arms done. All rallying behind the family coat of arms.
First unit of peasant bowmen finally completed. I realise now that they can't actually have a Grail Monk but I built these before I had the army list and I like the model and who goes into battle without a ready supply of meed and and and ...
