Today, 1st July 2024, marks a historical day as we announce the launch of UOWM-Intel Malaysia IC Design Centre of Excellence, at UOW Malaysia, Batu Kawan Campus, Penang. The event was witnessed by our Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow.

Intel introduced the university shuttle program in 2022 and provides educational institutions access to modern technology for their classes, training and talent development. UOWMKDU Penang is the first in Malaysia that embark on this program.

The IC Design Centre of Excellence is set up to equip undergraduate and postgraduate students’ necessary skills and knowledge as well as to develop talents for the IC Design ecosystem.

The second highlight of the day was the panel discussion session on topic "University-Industry Partnership and Cutting Edge Technology on Students' Education and Future Career'.

List of panelists includes Mr Tan Eng Hoo (MyTriz) as moderator, Prof Christian Ritz (UOW), Mr Suresh Kumar (Intel), Mr Chong LH (MSIA), IR Dr Khor Jeen Ghee (Escatec) and Mr Quek HC (Cadence).

Both the panelists and audience had a very fruitful and conducive discussion.

Both schools, Convent Datuk Keramat and SMJK Jit Sin, under the coaching by our senior lecturer, Dr Lee Gin Chong, emerged as winners in the final competition!

What an awesome start off 🚀 to our STEM Showcase today! Close to 30 schools participated in our Day 1 workshops, exhibitions and competitions in the Batu Kawan campus.

We are pretty sure that all the kids enjoyed the stem experiences today, hosted by various organisations.

Well done to our E&E degree students who had recently successfully completed a bootcamp hosted by Intel Corporation.

The bootcamp spanned from 22 - 24 April in Intel PG15, saw a participation of 10 students from both second and final year. Students gained understanding on Manufacturing Basic Test Methodologies and were required to present their discussions to the panel on board.

Two most outstanding teams were awarded for Best Presentation and we are proud to share that our students were in both the teams!
