We are children of God.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1 NIV
What an honor to be called children of God! He loves us so much. We don’t understand the half of His love for us. We feel so unworthy. Yet, He wants us to come to Him just as we are. With all the dirt and smudges that sin has put on us. Our righteousness is like filthy rags. He will forgive us and make us like new. We will receive a white robe of righteousness that will cover our filthy rags. So, hold your head high today because you are a child of God.

Escape Hatch
And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires. 2 Peter 1:4 NLT
Have you ever participated in an escape room adventure? A group of people are locked in a room. To exit the room, the group must work together to investigate and solve puzzles that will allow them to escape in a limited amount of time. You can buy an escape kit to use at a party. It is a great bonding experience for the participants.
Thankfully, with God, we don’t have to solve puzzles to escape this world’s corruption. He shares His divine nature through His promises giving us the key to escape.

How many times do we say, “I Love You?”
For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said:
I love you, LORD, my strength. Psalms 18:1 NIV
How many times do you tell your family that you love them? Some people have no trouble saying, “I love you.” It comes naturally to them. There are others that find it very difficult. They didn’t grow up in a loving home. We love our family but don’t always tell them we love them.
How often do you tell the LORD that you love Him? The Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit? Today’s verse reminds us that we need to say “I love You” more often to our family and our LORD.

A Blanket of Love
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 NLT
Don’t you love being wrapped up in a warm and cozy blanket on a cold morning? A blanket not only makes you feel nice and warm but also covers up any imperfections. That’s the way love is. Love others is like wrapping them in a warm and cozy blanket. You don’t see their imperfections. You just see them through eyes of love. That’s the way Jesus loves us. He envelopes us in His love. Our sins are covered by His righteousness. We should do the same for others.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; Psalms 103:11 NIV
The love of God for us knows no boundaries. Understanding how our God can love us with all our imperfections is beyond understanding. Yet, His love for us is beyond anything we can imagine. Let God know how much you love Him today.

Common Temptations
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
Does it ever feel like you are being tempted beyond your capabilities? Think of Job. I can’t imagine going through what he did. He lost his family, wealth, and health. Not only that, but his friends think everything was his fault. They thought God was punishing him because he had done something wrong. The book of Job teaches us that our problems do not come from God. They come from Satan. Our verse today gives us hope. We are not alone; others are tempted as we are. But we have a way out. We can turn to God, and He will give us the strength to endure and stand firm plus give us a way to escape. All we must do is ask Him for help.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4 NIV
Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James 5:10-11 NIV
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:8-10 NIV

What Oppresses You?
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (Psalms 9:9 NIV)
Oppression can come from many different sources. You may have a boss that is overbearing, financial problems, anxiety, depression, and so much more. There is a place we can go when we are feeling oppressed and overwhelmed with life. We can go to Jesus. He has big shoulders that can take on our worries and problems. He says to bring it on. He is there to give us support. Whatever our problems, He can give us peace and a place to rest.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

Jacob’s Promise
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." (Genesis 28:15 NIV)
Jacob had to leave home suddenly because he deceived his brother, Esau. While out in the desert heading to his uncle Laban’s home, Jacob had a dream. In the dream, he saw angels going up and down a ladder reaching to heaven. God spoke to Jacob and promised that He would always be with Him and that Jacob would someday return to his homeland. Jacob’s promise also applies to us. God will always watch over us wherever we go. In the end, He will take us to our heavenly home.

Do You Need Healing?
Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. (Jeremiah 17:14 NIV)
When today’s verse popped up, it made me smile. I am currently confined to a recliner or a bed to keep my right foot elevated. I had surgery on my foot. I had no idea it would be so extensive. It has been a few days now and the pain isn’t constant anymore. Yes, LORD, I need healing for my foot.
Sometimes we need physical healing; other times, we may need spiritual, emotional, or mental healing. The gospels have many stories of Jesus healing people when He was on this earth. He healed people then and still heals people today. Do you need healing today? Don’t put off asking for healing. He is the Great healer. Most of all, He wants to save us.

Running the race with joy
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.(Hebrews 12:1 NLT)
Hebrews chapter 11 is often called the chapter of faith. It lists people who, despite their handicaps and hindrances, ran the race to the finish line with joy. Each had major obstacles in their lives that they had to overcome. Yet, they ran their race with joy, knowing that at the end of the race, they would receive something far greater – salvation. We, too, can be like them and run our race with joy, knowing what we have waiting for us at the end of the race – seeing Jesus face-to-face.

Jesus can do what the law fails to do
For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, Romans 8:3 NIV
The law of God is important. It guides us with love. Love for God and love for each other. Yet, knowing the law does not keep us from breaking it. It points the way but does not give us the strength to follow. It is through the strength we receive from Christ that enables us to follow His commandments. When we fail, Jesus is there to forgive and cleanse us. Don’t give you when you fail, turn to Jesus for His strength. He has the power. He knows what it is like for us because He went through what we have plus more.

We live our faith when we live to serve others. There are so many people in need all around the world. I wish I could help them all, but I can’t. Yet, if each of us did something, many more people could be helped. Many organizations provide lunches for children in your area. There are organizations that provide food, clothing, water, and shelter for the homeless here and abroad. Does your church have an outreach program to help the needy in your area? Why not join them either financially or with your time, or both.

What are you doing here?
There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the LORD said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 1 Kings 19:9 NLT
Elijah had a mountain-top experience in 1 Kings 18:20-40 where he stood up for the God of Heaven against the many false prophets of Jezebel. It was a contest to see which god would bring down fire to burn up the offering. Elijah was a gentleman and allowed the false prophets to go first. They spent all day trying to entice their gods to bring fire. Elijah even teased them, saying, “call out louder, your god must be asleep or on a long journey.” Then it was Elijah’s turn. He poured 12 buckets of water over the altar and offering. It was soaked. No way fire could be started on wet wood. Elijah knelt and prayed. The God of Heaven sent down fire and devoured everything, including the stones. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and acknowledged that the God of Heaven was the true God, and they seized the false prophets who had been misleading them and killed them. What a mountain-top experience!
Then Jezebel finds out what happened to her prophets, and she is angry. She sends word to Elijah that he would be next because of what he did to her prophets. Fear grips Elijah, and he runs. He runs for 40 days and nights. Angels came and fed him on the way. He ends up on Mt Horeb, the mountain of God. This is where today’s verse comes in. God comes to him and says why are you doing here?
Elijah complains that he is the only one who is left of all the prophets of the true God of Heaven, and now they are trying to kill me. The LORD tells Elijah to go stand on the mountain, and there was a powerful wind that shattered the rocks. But the LORD was not in the wind. Then there was a mighty earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. Then came fire, and the LORD was not in the fire. Then there was a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he covered his face because he recognized the voice of the LORD.
Again, the LORD asked, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah repeats that he has stood up for the LORD, and now he is the only one left, and they are trying to destroy him. The LORD tells him to go back and anoint several people who will destroy Jezebel and her family. Also, anoint Elisha to take over the work of a prophet. And by the way, there are 7,000 who have not bowed before Baal.
Often when we have mountain-top experiences, we don’t always stay on the mountain. We go down to the valley. We may feel alone in the valley. Notice where Elijah went when he was afraid? He went to the mountain of God. He was given assurance that he was not the only one standing for the LORD. There were many others. Elijah received new orders.
When we are afraid like Elijah, and our work seems for naught, go to the LORD. When we feel we are the only ones who are standing, friends and family have forsaken the LORD, go to the LORD. He will give encouragement that there are others still standing. You may even receive new marching orders.
Do you know where you are?

So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18 NLT
Living a Christian life can be difficult when we are surrounded by people who don’t love the LORD. They don’t understand why we don’t have the desire to do the things that bring them pleasure. It may appear that they are happy and get all the breaks in life while we struggle. The problem is that they don’t know that their pleasure is for a season. It is all temporary. We should not look at others. We should keep our focus on Christ. As Paul says, don’t look at the things we can see, focus on the things that we cannot see that will last forever.

Our Conversations
Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. Colossians 4:6 NLT
Oh, I pray to always speak graciously to others, especially my spouse. Some days, I am grumpy, and my voice and words will show it. Maybe not so much to people outside of my home. Our biggest witness is to our families. Our children reflect what they see in us. When they see us react badly to situations, it teaches them to react the same way.
We all have our bad days. What I have learned, and I am not perfect, far from it, is to recognize I said some things that were not very nice. Once I recognize that I am not reflecting Christ, I pray for forgiveness and strength to overcome. I then apologized to the person that was on the receiving end of my tirade. I wish I could say I was always gracious, but sadly that is not the case. God is still working on me.
