New Study: Drinking From Plastic Bottles Can Raise Type 2 Diabetes Risk. A breakthrough new study has found direct evidence linking a key chemical ingredient in plastic bottles to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the journal Diabetes, found that the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) used to make food and drink packages, including plastic water bottles, can reduce sensitivity to the hormone insulin which regulates the body’s sugar metabolism. In the study, researchers randomly assigned 40 healthy adults to either receive a placebo, or about 50 micrograms per kg of their body weight of BPA daily. This BPA dose is the amount currently classified as safe by the EPA. Those who were administered BPA were less responsive to insulin after 4 days, while this change was not noticed in the placebo group participants. “These results suggest that maybe the U.S. EPA safe dose should be reconsidered and that healthcare providers could suggest these changes to patients,” researchers warned. Reducing BPA exposure by approaches like using stainless steel or glass bottles and BPA-free cans can lower diabetes risk, the researchers said.

DNA TV Show: Microplastics found in Indian salt and sugar brands, pose serious health risks A study revealed that people swallow 39,000 to 52,000 microplastic particles every year.

Recently, there's been a growing awareness about microplastics—tiny plastic particles that are now being found in various human tissues, including lungs, livers, brains, breast milk, and even placentas. The presence of these particles raises the question: What does this mean for our health and well-being?

Much of the research so far has focused on identifying where these microplastics are, rather than understanding their impact on our bodies. While we don't fully know the effects yet, what we do know about the chemicals in plastics—like hormone-disrupting BPA and phthalates—suggests that their presence in our bodies is concerning.

Microplastics are not only harmful due to the chemicals they contain; they also absorb other toxic substances such as heavy metals and flame retardants. While it’s just a theory at this point, scientists believe that these particles could lead to inflammation, oxidative stress, and damage to our cells.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the risks and the reality that microplastics are already present in our environment, it's wise to take steps to reduce our plastic use.

This looks like:

🌱 Avoiding bottled water and carrying a reusable glass or stainless steel bottle.
🌱 Filtering your drinking water to reduce contaminants.
🌱 Avoiding microwaving food in plastic containers.

🌱 Prioritizing foods packaged in glass rather than plastic.
🌱 Supporting initiatives that aim to reduce plastic pollution and protect the environment.

By making these small changes, we can contribute to a healthier world for ourselves and future generations.

Mungkin tidak ramai yang tahu bahawa Tugu Negara yang tersergam megah di Taman Botani Perdana, Kuala Lumpur pernah diletupkan oleh pengganas komunis pada 26 Ogos 1975 sehingga menyebabkan monumen bersejarah itu mengalami kerosakan teruk.

Tugu Negara yang diilhamkan oleh Perdana Menteri Pertama, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, siap dibina pada 1966 bagi memperingati semua perajurit yang gugur dalam Perang Dunia Pertama dan Kedua serta Darurat telah melalui proses baik pulih bermula dari tahun 1977.
