Love your eyes! 😘
When did you last had an eye test? Did it include screening for glaucoma? 👀
When did you last have an eye test? 🤔
Take care ! Stay safe !
Following my last 2 postings, many of you have been asking me what you can do to relieve dry eyes symptoms…. 🤔
So, today I’m going to share with you :
𝐃𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 #𝟐
💡 𝐓𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 💡
𝟏. 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝
Drink water first thing in the morning and keep hydrated throughout the day. We are often dehydrated when we wake. Coffees and teas are diuretics and can dehydrate us even more.
𝟐.𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬
These not only lubricate your eyes, giving your relief, they also protect the eye surface from damage caused by the dryness. If you need to use these often, consider investing in artificial tears that are preservative free.
𝟑. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬
Prolonged screen time can dry out your eyes, so it’s important to take regular breaks: I recommend the 20:20 rule, every 20 minutes, stop and close your eyes for 20 seconds. You can also take this opportunity to instil some artificial tears. Remember to blink during these visual tasks!
𝟒. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞
Warm eye masks or compresses on the eyes can relief dry eyes symptoms especially if you have meibomian gland dysfunction. Warm eye compress for 10 minutes and massage can help soften the oils in the glands that line your eyelids and help to smoothen the flow of the oils from the glands.
𝟓. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐋𝐢𝐝 𝐇𝐲𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐞
Use a cleanser formulated for use around the eye, especially if you suffer from blepharitis twice a day, targeting the base of the eyelashes where the eyelash leaves the eye.
𝟔. 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐠𝐚-𝟑 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Studies shows that intake of omega-3 fatty acids can helps to improve the signs and also symptoms of dry eyes. These can be found naturally in foods like oily fish and flax seeds, but can also be purchased in liquid or pill supplement form. Omega 3 are also available in algae based versions suitable for vegetarians.
𝟕. 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞 (𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐄)
With the pandemic, mask wearing has become the norm. Exhaled air that leaks under the mask can contribute to dry eyes, likened to an air vent across the eye surface. Finding a mask that fits well, with a nose bridge can help prevent this, or taping the top of the mask without tugging on the lower lid.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.
If you’ve tried these simple measures but your dry eyes continue to trouble you, do consult an ophthalmologist for further assessment and to explore other dry eye treatments available in the doctor's office.

First, let us explore the functional composition of our tear film. Tears is made up of 3 basic components:
𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭( 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫): contains salts such as Sodium, Potassium,
Chloride and Proteins
𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: which helps the liquid stick to the eyeball better,
and,
𝟑. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫: the oil in our tear film that prevents rapid evaporation of our tears
Dry eyes can be :
𝟏. 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞: where the eye does not make enough of the "watery"
component of tears
𝟐. 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞: where the oil component is lacking, therefore eventhough
there is enough watery component, the tears evaporate more quickly from the
surface of the eye
𝟑. 𝐌𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝: A combination of aqueous deficiency and evaporative dry eye
Dry eyes will impact your daily life drastically if you leave them untreated.⚠️
Most people ignore their dry eyes issues until they suffer from chronic dry eyes when their blurred vision, eye fatigue and pain start to impact their daily activities, or hamper their productivity or concentration.
Its advisable to go for eye test at least once a year, talk to doctor about your eye problems and let the doctor advise on the types of supplements, medications and treatments tailored to your eye concerns.

Are your eyes red, itchy & uncomfortable after long hours of working ? 👨🏻💻👩🏻💻
These are potential signs and symptoms of dry eyes! 👀
𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞:
* A stinging, burning or scratchy sensation in your eyes
* Stringy mucus in or around your eyes
* Sensitivity to light
* Eye redness
* A sensation of having something in your eyes
* Difficulty wearing contact lenses
* Difficulty with nighttime driving
* Watery eyes, which is the body's response to the irritation of dry eyes
* Blurred vision or eye fatigue
* Or it can even worsen to
𝐃𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞: where the condition is more severe where the eyes are actually painful, and the vision
can be blurred. 😰😰
Dry eyes occur when you either have insufficient tears production or when the oil component in your tear film is lacking, which accelerates the evaporation of tears, or both 💧
𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬. Left untreated, severe dry eyes may lead to 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, erosions of the corneal surface, corneal ulcers and 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬. 😱
Don’t leave your dry eyes untreated ⚠️‼️
Dry eyes can reduce the quality of your life and when severe impair your vision.

In this era of digitalization, especially since the Covid-19 lockdown, we see more kids with increasing shortsightedness (myopia) due to rapid online classes and the increasing use of digital devices to pacify or occupy kids while parents work from home. 🧑🏻💻👩🏻💻
Myopia is not as simple as having the inconvenience of wearing glasses/ contact lens. 👓

High myopia may also limit your children’s future career options, such as becoming a pilot👩🏻✈️
What can you do to avoid your child’s myopia from worsening whilst we adjust our lives during this pandemic❓
1️⃣ 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧. Observe the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, rest for 20 seconds: look into the far distance: 20 feet away.
