The Persatuan Warisan Penempatan Sungai Buloh is hosting an Raya gathering today, inviting all PKKN residents and healthcare workers to celebrate Raya together. This gathering provides an opportunity for our residents and healthcare staff to come together, strengthening bonds and fostering our mutual understanding and friendship. 🤗🤗🤗

Dengan penuh rasa syukur, saya menerima anugerah "Tokoh Sukarelawan Hospital Sungai Buloh 2023". Pengiktirafan ini bukan sekadar penghormatan peribadi, tetapi juga satu penghargaan kepada semua sukarelawan Care & Share Society yang bersama-sama menjadikan kami sebahagian daripada keluarga komuniti Penempatan Sungai Buloh.

Enam belas tahun yang lalu, saya melangkah masuk ke Penempatan Sungai Buloh dengan niat tulus untuk memelihara sejarah hidup bekas pesakit kusta. Tanpa diduga, perjalanan ini membawa kami menjadi satu keluarga yang sentiasa bersama komuniti Penempatan Sungai Buloh, mewarnai kehidupan orang-orang tua di Pusat Kawalan Kusta Negara (PKKN).

Saya berharap Kumpulan Care & Share Society terus mendapat sokongan yang berterusan dari pengarah Hospital Sungai Buloh Dr. Jasmeet dan Pegawai Yang Mengurus, Dr. Hafizuddin , agar niat kami untuk terus berbakti di PKKN terus berkembang.

Anugerah "Tokoh Sukarelawan Hospital Sungai Buloh 2023" ini bukan sahaja memberikan galakan besar kepada saya, tetapi juga menjadi pengiktirafan kepada semua sukarelawan Care & Share Society, serta NGO lain yang bersungguh-sungguh bekerja bersama di Hospital Sungai Buloh.

Kami berazam untuk terus memberikan inspirasi kepada lebih ramai orang untuk menyertai barisan sukarelawan, bersama-sama menyumbang kasih sayang kepada pesakit. Terima kasih kepada semua yang memberi tunjuk ajar dan menyokong usaha kami. Semoga usaha kita bersama dapat memberikan impak positif kepada masyarakat dan meningkatkan kualiti kehidupan pesakit di Penempatan Sungai Buloh.

As we are already aware, the National Leprosy Control Center (PKKN) has been nominated for recognition as a World Heritage site, with the Tentative List submitted to UNESCO on 17 January 2019. The National Heritage Department (JWN) is currently preparing the nomination documents for this purpose. The successful launch of the continuous program to protect PKKN at the international level is expected with the cooperation of various parties.

Today, the Sungai Buloh Heritage Society, the Sungai Buloh Settlement Council, and the stakeholders of PKKN have been invited to attend one day workshop at Nexus Regency Suites & Hotel, Shah Alam to contribute to PKKN's journey to UNESCO in presenting the world heritage treasures on the global stage. Today's program was officiated by YB Borhan Bin Aman Shah, Selangor State Housing and Culture EXCO.

The objective of the "Road to UNESCO -Nomination of the National Leprosy Control Center (PKKN) Sungai Buloh as a UNESCO World Heritage Site" one day workshop is to obtain input, feedback, involvement, and support from stakeholders and the community in the preparation of the nomination Dossier, Conservation Management Plan (CMP), and Special Area Plan (SAP). In addition, this one-day program also aims to create awareness about the importance of PKKN to all parties and engage them in the efforts to protect, conserve, and maintain the site through forums, briefings, focus group discussions (FGD) led by the Chief Consultant, and all relevant stakeholders. 🤗

Taylor's University lecturer, Koh Jing Hao along with 16 students from the School of Architecture, visited our East Section this morning for a site survey. They selected the most beautiful heritage building Rehabilitation Club (改良会）for a measure drawing. It's heartening to see the university actively engaging in our heritage preservation program, assisting with documentation and restoration suggestions. We are truly grateful and hope this program can continue, ensuring the attention and protection of every heritage site.

The Valley of Hope was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list in 2019. Conducting on-site research and measure drawings for potential World Heritage sites is crucial because the Valley of Hope is recognized for its exceptional cultural and historical significance. On-site research and measure drawings ensure accurate records of architectural details, materials, and unique features of heritage buildings. This is vital for preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

Furthermore, maintaining historical accuracy of heritage buildings requires precise measurements and documentation. Measure drawings provide detailed records of building dimensions, layouts, and architectural elements, helping to stay true to the original design. Additionally, heritage buildings often require conservation and restoration work to prevent deterioration. On-site research allows experts to assess the current condition of the buildings and identify areas that need attention. Measure drawings serve as a reference for restoration, ensuring precise ex*****on.

The National Leprosy Control Center (NLCC) launched a Heritage Exhibition on 25 February 2023, at 9.00 am at the PKKN Community Hall .

It is a joint venture between Sungai Buloh Settlement Heritage Society(SBSHS), NLCC, Taylor's University and Universiti Malaya. A total of 12 measured drawings of the historic buildings of NLCC and some proposed conservation plans produced by students of the architecture faculty of the two universities will be on exhibition. The exhibition was launched by Dr Jasmeet, the Director of Hospital Sungai Buloh. This effort is to promote and preserve the Sungai Buloh Settlement towards the National Heritage and UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Sungai Buloh Settlement Heritage Society (SBSHS), established in 2018, is a strategic partner to NLCC and aims at preserving, conserving and promoting the heritage of the Sungai Buloh Settlement.

Activities at PKKN today.

SBS Heritage Society went to the Perbadanan Adat Melayu dan Warisan Negeri Selangor (PADAT) this morning to discuss on how the relevant departments of the state government can work together to expedite the application of the Sungai Buloh Settlement as UNESCO World Heritage.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Nadia Widyawati Madzi, CEO of PADAT, and attended by officials including Puan Intan, Encik Anas, Puan Shahrulniza and Dr Rohaslinda. Representatives from Sungai Buloh Heritage Society were Dr Radhiah Mustafar, Dr Zuraini, Dr Rodiah, Encik Azim and Tan Ean Nee.

Sungai Buloh Leprosarium Heritage and Conservation Project was started last Saturday. The first workshop was organised by Taylor’s University in collaboration with Sungai Buloh Settlement Heritage Society and National Leprosy Control Centre.

The workshop aims to promote and facilitate cultural and heritage preservation initiatives in the Settlement. The students are given a task to preserve two chalets in the Sungai Buloh Settlement and they will help to produce measured drawings, dilapidation survey, adaptive reuse proposal of the selected chalets and also produce a master plan proposal for a selected portion of the settlement.

It is hoped that this project can bring bilateral benefits to all where the chalet can be preserved and reused by the hospital and also contribute to the learning of the students from Taylor's architecture faculty.🥰🥰

From 5th Feb - 7th Feb 2020, with the strong support from the Selangor State Government, SBSHS conducted three days of Integrated Action Workshop for the Sungai Buloh Leprosarium. The workshop collaborated with the Department of National Heritage and Hospital Sungai Buloh and was participated by more than 30 bodies representing all stakeholders, related government departments and NGOs.

PWPSB dijemput oleh SUK Selangor untuk menghadiri mesyuarat mengenai status permohonan tanah Pusat Kawalan Kusta Negara (PKKN) untuk penyenaraian Warisan Dunia UNESCO. Wakil-wakil dari Jabatan Warisan Negara (JWN), Pejabat Daerah & Tanah Gombak (PDG Gombak), Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Selangor (JKNS), Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM), Jabatan Ketua Pengarah Tanah Dan Galian (Persekutuan) Negeri Selangor (JKPTG SEL), Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Hospital Sungai Buloh (HSgB) dan Pelan Malaysia @ Selangor turut dipanggil untuk membincangkan isu status tanah PKKN.

One of the achievements of PWPSB was bringing up the issue of land status, which was to be discussed at Selangor state level. This issue is very important because the Sungai Buloh Leprosarium site nomination cannot proceed if it is not clear who the owner of the land is.

In FEB 2019, the Department of National Heritage listed the Sungai Buloh Leprosarium in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List as the first step towards the formal nomination.

The Sungai Buloh Settlement Heritage Society (SBSHS) was established in Jan 2020 to ensure that the Sungai Buloh residents’ needs, hopes and visions could be heard and interpreted in future preservation development. The main objective of SBSHS is to “Preserve, Protect and Promote” the history, heritage and memories of the Sungai Buloh Settlement.

The founder of the society, Dr Lim Yong Long, is one of the earliest academicians who had relentlessly urged the government to preserve Sungai Buloh Settlement’s legacies. Dr Lim graduated from the University of Tokyo and did his PhD research in the history of leprosy institutions in Malaysia. With his architectural conservation background, the Department of National Heritage appointed him to write comparative analysis and World Heritage Tentative List nomination for Sungai Buloh Leprosarium.

The members of the society comprise the Sungai Buloh residents, Sungai Buloh Council, a group of academicians, heritage conservators, historians, medical practitioners and NGOs.
